July 21, 1944 ~ November 27, 2019 (age 75)

Obituary

Fred G. Bethoney, age 75, passed away in the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts on Wednesday, November 27, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.  Born in Boston, Massachusetts on July 21, 1944, he was the son of the late Fred J. and Helena (Solomon) Bethoney.  He was raised and educated in the South End of Boston.  After high school, Fred took a job in his uncle’s restaurant, The Red Fez, working as a chef in the kitchen.  In his more recent years, Fred was affectionately known as a “professional handicapper” but that never slowed him down.

Fred lived for the decade of the 1950s, he loved recounting stories from the “old days” that entertained anyone who he spoke with.  He also loved Doo-Wop and was the ceremonial roadie for the group, Street Magic, following them wherever they performed.  Fred was moved by their music and he always danced the night away, whether the jitter bug or his famous “Uncle Freddie Dance.”  Most of all, Fred loved being surrounded by his family and especially enjoyed the time he spent with his nieces and nephews.

Devoted son of the late Fred J. and Helen (Solomon) Bethoney.
Loving brother of Donna H. Moses and her husband, James, of Norfolk, Eileen M. Fuller and her husband, Joseph, of West Roxbury, and Michael J. Bethoney and his wife, Jean-Marie, of Franklin.
Cherished uncle of Deborah Ann Moses, Vikki-Lynn Castellano and her husband, Joseph, Andrea J. Moses, Helena B. Pitner and her husband, Michael, James G. Moses, Jr., Michael F. Moses, Angelina Bethoney, and the late Joseph S. Moses and grand uncle of Nicholas, Nicole, Bethany, Anthony, Michael, Ava, Lauren, Emma, James, and Sebato.
Also survived by many close friends.
