John Peter Lippolis, age 91, passed away in the Charlwell House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Norwood, Massachusetts on Tuesday, November 26, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. Born in North Bergen, New Jersey on October 31, 1928, he was the son of the late Francisco “Frank” and Marta (Mongelli) Lippolis. Shortly after John was born, his family settled in East Walpole, Massachusetts, where he was raised and educated. John found his passion for woodworking as a young man, taking a job with the Walpole Woodworkers on Route 27. He worked all during his high school years and following his graduation from Walpole High School in 1946, he took on a full-time position with the Woodworkers.
John’s career was interrupted by his service in the United States Army during the Korean War. He served overseas for eight months before returning to the U.S. and upon his honorable discharge in February of 1953, John had earned the rank of Corporal. John returned to East Walpole and picked up his career at the Woodworkers where he had left off. As a talented craftsman, in addition to building the outdoor furniture at work, John built various projects for his family and was always the first to be called if an item needed repair. In his own woodshop at home, John, with the assistance of his best friend, Billy Flower, built his own boat that the two would take out on the weekends, enjoying time on the water and catching fish.
When John wasn’t hard at work, he enjoyed spending time on Cape Cod and looked forward to escaping to the mountains of North Conway, New Hampshire. However, more than anything, John loved being at home in East Walpole, close to his family and friends. His family will always be thankful for his kindness and generosity with his time and talents.
Devoted son of the late Francisco “Frank” and Marta (Mongelli) Lippolis.
Loving brother of Maria Serena of East Walpole, Anna Nardone of Wrentham, and the late Concetta “Connie” Curtin.
