Albert Bernard Benson

Albert "Al" Bernard Benson, 80, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 13th, 2026 at Lahey Clinic in Burlington. Born in Boston on December 23rd, 1945, Albert was the son of Oscar and Anna (Iverson) Benson.

Albert spent his childhood in Boston, moving 9 times in 13 years while his father renovated the homes that he and his family lived in. They eventually settled in Canton.

Al and his brother, Viktor, learned the value of hard work and honesty at a young age, when they became house painters, helping their father with renovations. With his hard-work and hard-earned money, sixteen-year-old Al special-ordered a brand new 1963 Pontiac, and his father couldn't refuse, as he felt Al had earned it. Al maintained and brought the car to shows throughout his life. He also enjoyed his Harleys, taking trips to New Hampshire, Florida, and South Dakota.

After high school, Al enlisted in the Navy, and after his discharge, he settled in Walpole with his wife, Karen, with whom he welcomed two children, Erik and Andrea.

Al was a master of many trades. With Viktor he became a general contractor and also owned and maintained multiple real estate investments. Al also started his own iron works business, specializing in ornamental work. His work can be seen not only in the gates and railings that he fabricated for residential and commercial properties in the area but also in his home.

Al's property was his pride and joy, and a testament to years of hard work and endless skills.

Al’s work ethic was not contained to the professional realm. His woodworking skills are evidenced in his hand-crafted pool cues, tables, and eyebrow windows, all of which are labors of love. He planted trees at his property, meticulously taking care of them and recording their growth each year. He also handcrafted beds for his three grandchildren, and these unique pieces will forever remind his grandchildren of his skill and love.

Al loved animals and fondly remembers all of his pets. He was that person that would stop traffic to help turtles cross the road safely. Al had a way with all animals, and they seemed to gravitate to him.

Al cherished time with his family . He was also very proud of his Swedish heritage.

Albert also had many dear friends, and a wonderful sense of humor, wanting to make people laugh wherever he went , everyday. For example, when he needed a hernia repair surgery, he insisted to the doctor that he wanted a "him"nia , not a "her"nia.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family and friends.

Former husband of Karen Benson of Walpole. 

Cherished grandfather of Sarah Benson and Sean and Owen Larkin. 

Longtime partner of the late Linda Scrima.

Brother of Elaine Benson of New Hampshire, Viktor Benson and his wife, Carol, of Walpole; Linnea Benson Whelan and her husband, Walter Whelan of Quincy; and the late Anita Lewis.

Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Albert's visitation on Sunday, September 27th, 2026 from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole.
