Alice K. McLaughlin, age 84, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 25, 2023, at the Hancock Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Quincy, Massachusetts. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on August 30, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Dennis and Alice (Thornton) McLaughlin. Alice was raised in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, where she graduated from Jamaica Plain High School with the Class of 1957.
Alice went on to settle in the town of Sharon, Massachusetts, where she took on the role of a homemaker, raising and caring for her family. As her five children grew up and graduated from high school, Alice returned to her education, first taking classes at Dean Jr. College in Franklin, before earning her bachelor's degree from Boston College. Alice continued her education at BC, earning her master's degree with a focus on social work in 1984.
With her degree in hand, Alice set out to begin her career as a Licensed Social Worker with Catholic Charities in their Braintree, Massachusetts office. With more than ten years of experience, Alice went on to take a job with Riverside Community Care in Norwood. Alice eventually returned to Catholic Charities, taking a position with their Healthy Families Program in Framingham, helping to obtain services for unwed and teenage mothers.
In her retirement, Alice made her home in Chestnut Hill, but loved making her way to the ocean to enjoy a day at the beach. She especially enjoyed visiting White Horse Beach in Plymouth and Humarock Beach in Scituate, spending the day laying out in the sun with her family or friends. Her social life did not, however, end at the beach, as Alice looked forward to many vacations with her friends, whether boarding a plane bound for a new destination or relaxing on the deck of a cruise ship. Back at home, Alice loved being surrounded by her family, treasuring the moments spent with those she loved. She was sure to be at every holiday and event and loved the opportunity to share a delicious meal at one of her favorite restaurants with her family.
Loving mother of Susan Schein and her husband, Jonathan, of Plymouth, Diane Allen of Santa Monica, California, Stephen Salemme of Boston, the late Frankie Salemme, and the late Kathleen Salemme.
