Ann Catherine Ellis

Ann Catherine (Dalton) Ellis, age 95, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at the Maples Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Wrentham, Massachusetts. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on November 23, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Hewitt) Dalton. Ann was raised in Walpole, Massachusetts, a town she would love and live in her whole life. After her graduation from Walpole High School with the class of 1947, she attended the Chandler Business School in Boston. Ann used the skills she learned at the Chandler to find employment at the Kendall Mills, taking a position in the offices.

Ann married the love of her life, Charles T. Ellis Jr., on October 27, 1951, in Blessed Sacrament Church, in Walpole. The couple made their married home in Walpole, where Ann transitioned to the role of home maker. Ann also took on the role of Mother as she and Charles welcomed six children over the coming years.

In her free time, Ann enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her face lit up with joy, her smile spreading from ear to ear, each time she was called Grammie. Ann also enjoyed watching Boston sports, especially the Celtics and Red Sox. She was an avid Red Sox fan, catching every game, every season. When her favorite teams weren't playing, Ann liked to cozy up with a good book and a cup of tea, getting lost in the pages of a mystery novel, or brushing up on history. She kept busy around the house, finding peace while folding a warm load of laundry straight from the dryer. Ann collected stamps, making sure to pick up the first edition of each new series. She loved to take walks, knowing all the best routes around her neighborhood, and doing a little bird watching while she was out. Ann loved birds. She placed feeders around her yard that she kept full for her feathered friends, and visitors to her home always knew what time it was when her much loved bird clock chimed with a different bird song each hour.

Loving mother of Edward Ellis of Walpole, Cheryl McHugh and her husband Michael of Foxborough, Stephen Ellis of Walpole, Timothy Ellis and his wife Lucy of Plainville, the late Ann Marie Gagliardi and her late husband Albert, and Charles Ellis and his surviving wife Nancy of Indiana.

Cherished grandmother of Casey Ellis, Charles Ellis, Sarah Ellis, Timothy Ellis, Benjamin Ellis, Colleen McHugh, Maureen McHugh, Louisa Gagliardi, Serafina Gagliardi, Christina Gagliardi, and the late John McHugh; and great-grandmother of Finn Ellis, Charles Ellis, and Rosie Ellis

Also survived by many extended relatives and friends.

At the request of Ann's family, all services will be private with interment taking place at Saint Francis Cemetery, Walpole.
