Anne L. Cosgrove

Anne L. (O'Leary) Cosgrove, age 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 9, 2026, at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, Massachusetts, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on November 9, 1935, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Anne T. (Haverty) O'Leary. Anne was raised in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Boston, attending Hyde Park High School, where she earned a position on the varsity cheerleading team. Following her graduation in 1953, Anne took a position with the New England Telephone Company, working as a secretary.

Anne married her beloved husband, John E. "Jack" Cosgrove, Jr., in 1955, while he was on active duty at Fort Dix, New Jersey. The couple returned to Massachusetts, making their home in Hyde Park before settling in Sharon, Massachusetts, welcoming six children. Taking on the role of a homemaker, Anne took great pride in raising and caring for her family, ensuring her children had everything they needed. As her children grew up, Anne returned to her career, taking a job with the Town of Sharon's Engineering Department, serving as the office manager for many years. In addition to working at Town Hall, Anne loved giving back to her community, pulling on her cheerleading experience to lead her own Pop Warner Cheer team.

Words to describe Anne: beautiful, funny, witty, smart, strong, stubborn, stylish and Best Friend to all. She loved talking to people and making friends wherever she went.

Family gatherings at 19 Harold Street were special. On Christmas and Thanksgiving the house was full of 12 little ones running around.

Her famous dishes were served on a random Sunday afternoon where family would gather. Her Chicken Dish was by far the most popular, as all ages lined up for a giant scoop or 2. We don't really know the full recipe, as she would just “wing it”, but no matter what it always tasted like home. Besides Chicken Dish, her Goolash was second to none. Another favorite that would draw us all to her house. She would call and say, “I’m making Goolash” or “I’m making Chicken Dish” and we would say, be right over!

For dessert we all hoped she popped in a lemon cake and our meal would be complete! And everyone enjoyed a special cup of Red Rose tea with dessert admiring her many Red Rose Tea ceramic figurines that she collected.

Her family was a Football family and she was the ultimate Football Mom, tailgate special sandwiches of Roast Beef, cranberry sauce and stuffing on a soft roll were plentiful.

When not cooking, she could be found at one of many favorite restaurants with friends and family. The 99 Restaurant, Conrad's, Dairy Queen, Bertucci's, and Horse and Carriage. She loved a good Manhattan, Amaretto, Wine and recently had acquired a taste for Guinness!

She enjoyed a good murder mystery and loved "Murder She Wrote". She also read many books and loved a good detective suspense novel!

Other shows she enjoyed are "Gone With The Wind" and "Golden Girls". She would also enjoy watching the Boston Bruins and The New England Patriots. She bragged that she met Bobby Orr, thru longtime friend of the family and Bruins player Teddy Green.

Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she was their #1 fan. Attending many events over the years, traveling to Maine to see Jeri, Matthew, Carly and Sydni play in various sporting events, including softball, basketball and football. To UNH to see Jamie play football, spending time with Lissa discussing her life over tea, saw Nicole receive her 3rd Degree Blackbelt, marveled at Sean as Lacrosse Goalie, cheered on Jenna coaching Rhode Island College Women’s Basketball, watched Lindsey play softball for Norton, and watching James and Jack play football and wrestle for Norton High School. She was proud of them all and was their biggest cheerleader.

Beloved wife of the late John E. "Jack" Cosgrove, Jr.

Loving mother of John W. "Jack" Cosgrove and his wife Marilyn of Waterville, Maine, Michael E. Cosgrove and his wife Kathy of South Easton, Jill A. Cosgrove of Foxborough, Ellen T. Cosgrove Cuneo and her husband James of Norton, Jeffrey T. Cosgrove and his partner Wayne Pina of Brockton, and the late Kristen M. Cosgrove.

Cherished grandmother “Nana” of Jeri, Matthew, Carly, Sydni, Jenna, Lissa, Nicole, Sean, Jamie, Lindsey, James, and Jack; step grandmother of Anthony and Jesselyn; and step great grandmother of Hailey and Tatiana.

Becoming a great-Nana gave her a new sense of pride and joy. Rylan, Braiden, Carter, Casey, Violet, and Liana were all so special to her.

Sister of Mary E. MacNeil and her husband Vincent of Marshfield, the late William A. O'Leary and his late wife Sally, the late Patricia M. Trulio and her surviving husband Joe of South Yarmouth, and the late Arthur O'Leary and his late wife Judy.

Loving aunt of many nieces and nephews and best lifelong friend of the late Lolly (Smigliani) Foxx and the late Marilyn (Brady) Whelan.
