Antonina J. Traietti

Antonina J. “Nina” Traietti, age 92, passed away peacefully in her apartment at Sunrise of Norwood on Saturday, August 31, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.  Born in Boston, Massachusetts on February 16, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Maria Rubino. She was raised in the Brighton area of Boston, graduating from Brighton High School with the Class of 1945.  Following graduation, Nina enrolled in Regis College in Boston, taking classes to become a registered dietitian and earning her bachelor’s degree in 1949. While Nina’s studies were in nutrition, she took her first job with the Boston Gas Company.  Since Nina was bilingual, speaking fluent Italian, the gas company placed her in Italy, where she spent over two years.

 

After her years abroad, Nina came home to Brighton, attending the dances at the local Sons of Italy hall.  It was during one of these dances that she met her husband to be, Arnaldo I. Traietti. They were married in March of 1964 and together, made their home in Newton, where they welcomed their two sons, Andrew and Mark.  Nina took on the role of a homemaker, raising and caring for her young family. She returned to work taking a dietitian’s position with the Malden Hospital. Nina went on to take a job with the Deaconess Hospital before starting work with West Suburban Elder Services.

 

Throughout her life, Nina loved music, especially classic opera and anything she and her beloved husband, Arnaldo, could dance to.  Any day spent at the beach was a day that Nina enjoyed. She regularly spent time at Magnolia Beach and the beaches of Gloucester and Beverly.  Back at home, she enjoyed some quiet time, either reading or preparing a meal for her family to enjoy together. However, most of all, Nina treasured the time that she spent surrounded by those she loved.

Loving mother of Andrew A. Traietti and his wife, Cathy, of Walpole and Mark A. Traietti.   Cherished grandmother of Andrea Traietti and Matthew Traietti both of Walpole.

Sister of the late Emilia Cirame and the late Stephen Rubino.

Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

 

All services are private at the request of Nina’s family.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.  Arrangements by James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, Walpole.
