Arlene T. Hoegler

April 12, 1933 — June 3, 2022

Arlene T. (Fitzpatrick) Hoegler, age 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 3, 2022, at her home in Walpole, Massachusetts, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Worcester, Massachusetts on April 12, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Christopher B. and Mary C. (O'Mara) Fitzpatrick.  She spent her early years in Worcester, before her family settled in Franklin, Massachusetts.  Arlene graduated from Franklin High School with the Class of 1950 and continued her education at Saint Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing in Worcester, earning her Register Nurse's Certificate in 1953.  Following her graduation, Arlene took a position with Pondville Hospital in Norfolk, working as an operating room nurse.

Arlene married her beloved husband, Louis E. "Ted" Hoegler, on August 18, 1956, in her parish of Saint Mary's in Franklin.  The couple made their home together in Walpole, where Arlene would take on the role of a homemaker, caring for her young family.  In addition to raising her family, Arlene regularly put her nursing skills to work, assisting the Red Cross or providing private home care.  As her children grew up, Arlene took a full-time position with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Public Health, serving as an auditor.  In the course of her career, she traveled throughout the Commonwealth, inspecting the various state hospitals and group homes, before her retirement in 1993.

Throughout her life, Arlene remained close with her high school girl friends, always looking forward to getting together for lunch.  After moving to Walpole, her circle grew, making new friends in town and joining the Mermaids for water aerobics at the Mass Hospital School in Canton.  While spending time with her friends was important, Arlene's family always came first.  As the matriarch, she ensured everyone was cared for and supported, whether at home or away at the camp in Walden, Vermont.  She was delighted at the birth of her grandchildren and loved taking an active role in their lives.
