Arthur J. "Archie" Murray

Arthur J. "Archie" Murray, age 95, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at Foremost in Sharon, Massachusetts.  Born in Boston, Massachusetts on July 14, 1928, he was the son of the late Gladys (Murray) Dever.  Archie was raised in Dorchester's Saint William Parish neighborhood and graduated from Boston English High School with the Class of 1946.  Following his graduation, Archie enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving his country through the remainder of World War II.  He was stationed in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations, taking place in the occupation of Japan.  Archie was honorably discharged in January of 1948, having earned the rank of Technician Fifth Grade.

Upon his return home to Boston, Archie took a position with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, working in the accounting department at the State House.  In 1950, Archie took a job with Domino Sugar in Charlestown, eventually earning a promotion to supervisor before his retirement in 1987.  Archie spent his retirement years living in Norwood, Massachusetts, with his beloved companion, Eleanor Mahoney.  The couple blended their families together, enjoying everything life had to offer for more than forty years, often seeking out the best deals at yard sales and flea markets.

As a proud Army veteran, Archie was a long-time member of the USS Jacob Jones VFW Post 2017 and the American Legion Post 18, both in Dedham.  He was also a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE) Lodge #10 in Boston.

Throughout his life, Archie was an avid golfer, enjoying a day on the links with family and friends.  He played many courses over the years, but his two favorites were Ponkapoag in Canton and Stone-E-Lea in Attleboro.  Archie was honored with a trophy and bragging rights after achieving a hole-in-one at Stone-E-Lea.  In addition to enjoying himself on the golf course, Archie looked forward to trying his luck at area casinos, hoping to win big.

Loving companion and best friend of the late Eleanor M Mahoney.

Loving father of Robert A Murray and his wife Patricia of Ft Myers, Fl, Paul Murray of Hull, the late Joanne Skinner, the late Nancy E Mullaney and her surviving husband Paul of Bourne.
