Barbara Ann (Mackenzie) Murray, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at the Alliance at Maples Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Wrentham, Massachusetts, surrounded by her loving family. Born in East Walpole, Massachusetts on April 16, 1936, she was the daughter of the late James and Lillian (Maki) Michenzie.
Barbara was raised in Walpole and attended the local public schools, graduating from Walpole High School with the class of 1953. After graduation Barbara enrolled at Dean College in Franklin, Massachusetts, where she studied business and administration. At the same time, she found employment at the Boston Envelope Company based out of Dedham, using the skills she learned in school to serve as an accounting clerk.
Barbara married the love of her life, George Peter "Pete" Murray, on November 8, 1959, in her home parish of Blessed Sacrament Church. The pair began dating in high school, and when Pete deployed to Korea as part of the US Army, Barbara patiently waited for her love to return home. The newlyweds made their married home first in Norfolk, Massachusetts, before purchasing their home in East Walpole in 1964.
Barbara's family was her life. She fell even more in love with Pete as the years went on, with Pete being just as besotted as Barbara, the pair fiercely devoted to one another. Barbara loved to spend time with her siblings as well and even served as the primary caregiver for her brother Jim for many years of his life. She was a loving, caring, kind, wonderful, and thoughtful woman who always took care of those around her. Though she and Pete never had children of their own, Barbara was thrilled to be an aunt, and later, great aunt to her many nieces and nephews and looked forward to seeing them.
In her free time, Barbara loved to stay active. Pete and Barbara had a condo in North Conway, New Hampshire, which enabled them to enjoy all the outdoor activities that the region had to offer. Winters were spent hitting the slopes on Mt. Cranmore, and warmer weather meant teeing off at the Wentworth Golf Resort in nearby Jackson Village. When Barbara began to slow down on the slopes, she got herself a membership at Plant Fitness and took classes at the Walpole Senior Center, keeping fit and making friends at the same time. In addition to being a member of the Senior Center, Barbara was also a member of the Italian American Ladies Bocce League. At home, Barbara loved to curl up with a good book at the end of the day, relaxing after a date night out with Pete at one of their favorite restaurants like the Horse and Carriage or Beacons.
