David Martin Dockery, age 68, passed away on July 24, 2024, at the Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, Rhode Island. Born in Memphis, Tennessee on April 11, 1956, he was the son of the late Edward J. and Eleanor Louise (Ryan) Dockery. He was raised in the village of Harmony in Glocester, Rhode Island and graduated from Ponaganset High School with the Class of 1974. Following his graduation, Dave enlisted in the United States Air Force, learning the basics of military communication. He served out his active-duty time as a communications specialist, before transferring to the Rhode Island Air National Guard, continuing to serve his country and community until July of 1980.
Dave began his career in the bio-medical field, taking a position with Becton Dickerson Medical Systems, working as an engineering assistant in 1977. He brought his knowledge to Shiley Infusaid in Norwood, before taking a position with Pace Medical in Waltham. As a self-taught student of the medical field, Dave settled in as a senior design engineer, keeping his finger on the pulse of the every changing regulatory environment surrounding medical device development.
Dave married his beloved wife, Carol A. Flanagan, on May 11, 1996, and together they made their home in Plainville, Massachusetts. He and Carol shared a wonderful relationship over the course of forty-four years, enjoying life's simple pleasures. Dave regularly "serenaded" Carol, showcasing his vocals, singing along with his favorite classic rock songs.
Dave's career with Pace Medical continued, remaining loyal to the company for 27 years, and achieving the title of Senior Design Engineer. As the company dissolved, Dave took his career overseas for a short period of time, consulting with Devices, Ltd, based in the United Kingdom. More recently, in 2014, Dave took a position with Siemens Diagnostics in Norwood, serving as the senior risk engineer.
Throughout his life, Dave loved being outdoors. Whether casting his line into one of his favorite fishing holes or preparing one of his model airplanes for flight, if the sun was shining, Dave would have a smile on his face. Autumn Sundays quickly moved indoors, as Dave quietly waited for kickoff, catching the coverage of all the NFL teams, but paying close attention to the talent of the New England Patriots. His love for sports did not end with football, as he was an avid Boston sports fan, tuning in to watch the hometown teams whenever he could.
