David Frank Marshall, 89, of Walpole, Massachusetts, formerly of Reading, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, David was the son of the late Henry Marshall and Marjorie Elizabeth (Gilcreast) Marshall, who made their home in Melrose, Massachusetts. He was a graduate of Tufts University, Class of 1959.
David is survived by his wife of 60 years, Donna; his son, Alan Marshall, and daughter-in-law, Laurie, and their children, Trevor and Madelyn; and his daughter, Laura Elliott, and her children, James and Katherine.
David enjoyed a career with the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL), where he combined his lifelong passion for bridge with his professional work. As a Bridge Life Master, he found great joy in both the competition and camaraderie the game brought throughout his life.
An avid traveler, David was fortunate to explore much of the world, creating lasting memories through his many adventures. He was also a devoted sports fan, faithfully following the Boston Red Sox and the Washington Redskins for decades.
David also spent many years as a football and rugby official, officiating high school and collegiate games throughout his career.
David had a lifelong appreciation for the wit and music of Gilbert and Sullivan, a remarkable memory, and a wonderfully dry sense of humor. He could easily "know the kings of England, and quote the fights historical, from Marathon to Waterloo, in order categorical," and he never hesitated to declare Statler and Waldorf his favorite Muppets.
Above all, David will be remembered for his intelligence, wit, curiosity, and the love he shared with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend visitation on Monday, July 20th, 2026, from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. A funeral home service will be held at 12:00 pm, with interment to follow at Terrace Hill Cemetery in Walpole.
In appreciation for the compassionate care and support they provided, David’s family kindly requests that donations in lieu of flowers be made in his memory to Good Shepherd Community Care at 160 Wells Ave, Newton, MA 02459 or by visiting https://gscommunitycare.org/Donate.
