David Popoloski

August 1, 1950 — February 18, 2022

David Popoloski, age 71, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 18, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Woburn, Massachusetts on August 1, 1950, he was the son of the late Albert and Ann Isabel (MacNeil) Popoloski. He was raised in Woburn.

At the young age of sixteen, Dave found his career as a building mover with P & D Building Movers, spending countless hours learning the craft. He left his full-time position as a building mover to take a position with Polaroid in Waltham, but kept his foot in the door, helping his colleagues at P & D with countless jobs in his spare time. Dave spent just enough time at Polaroid to meet his wife to be, Kathy Shaw.

Dave and Kathy were married on June 27, 1980, in Most Precious Blood Church in Hyde Park. After a short year in Stoneham, the couple made their home in Hyde Park, where Dave became a fixture in the neighborhood. Whenever he saw one of his neighbors starting a project, he was the first one to come by with a shovel, offering to help. Dave also enjoyed working on projects around his own home, including cultivating his flower garden in the front yard. As he and Kathy welcomed their two sons, Paul and Ryan, Dave also opened his home to several Golden Retrievers over the years. He looked forward to escaping the city for a hike with his dogs through the Blue Hills Reservation.

Dave quickly returned to his career as a building mover, eventually taking over P & D to form D & K Building Movers in 1995. He loved every minute of his job, from the manual labor to operating his favorite pink hydraulic machine, moving countless structures for his clients. Although he was an expert in his unique trade, Dave preferred to humbly describe himself as a professional building mover. That didn’t stop those who worked with Dave from proclaiming him to be a self-made genius in the field. Dave continued operating the business alongside his wife Kathy, until his retirement in 2019. Following his retirement, Dave and Kathy left the big city, making their home in the quiet suburban town of Franklin.

As a devoted family man, Dave was most happy when he was surrounded by those he loved. He looked forward to his family's annual Walt Disney World trip each February, taking two weeks off to be with his wife and sons. Back at home, Dave was a wonderful cook, who was known for making his chicken and dumplings for his family to enjoy together.

Beloved husband of Kathy (Shaw) Popoloski.

Loving father of Paul D. Popoloski and his wife, Amy Fowler-Popoloski, of Tyngsboro and Ryan M. Popoloski and his partner, Rachael Nakiwala, of Franklin.
