David Joseph Smith

December 16, 1964 — March 24, 2022

David Joseph Smith, age 57, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 24, 2022, in his Malden, Massachusetts home.  Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on December 16, 1964, he was the son of the late James D. and Margaret A. (Silva) Smith.  He was raised in Walpole, Massachusetts, and attended Tri County Regional Vocational Technical High School, where he was a standout athlete on the soccer field.  David went on to graduate from Walpole High School with the Class of 1984.  Following his graduation, Dave took a position with the Department of Public Works in Walpole

After making his home in North Attleborough, Massachusetts, Dave welcomed his two sons, Nathaniel and Brody.  As an avid outdoorsman, Dave looked forward to various adventures with his family depending on the season.  The winter led to ski trips to the mountains of New Hampshire, summer months brought family vacations to Duxbury Beach, and late spring was perfect for camping trips to sites along the Kancamagus Scenic Byway as well as several KOA Campgrounds in New Hampshire.  However, it was Autumn that Dave looked forward to most, as it was hunting season at his family's camp in Belchertown.  Every Fall, Dave would make the trip to western Massachusetts, with his bow in hand, hoping to catch the trophy buck.

Dave went on to make his home in Boston for a number of years, where he met the love of his life, Darlene.  He and Darlene made their home together in Quincy, Massachusetts, where they were married on October 22, 2019.  Dave loved spending time with Darlene, whether walking along the beach, camping in one of their favorite state campgrounds, or casting a fishing line into the water to try their luck.  More recently, he and Darlene settled into their home in Malden.

Dave worked various jobs throughout his life, and in 2021, he took a position with Lowe's Home Improvement in Weymouth, working in the stock room.  He worked hard, knowing that after his shift, he could come home to Darlene and watch his favorite Boston sports team, the Patriots and the Bruins.

Beloved husband of Darlene M. (Leavens) Smith.

Loving father of Nathaniel D. Smith and Brody Smith both of North Attleborough and stepfather of Heather A. Palermo of Pembroke.

Devoted son of the late James D. and Margaret A. (Silva) Smith.

Cherished brother of Rhonda Paglierani and her husband, Peter, of Stoneham, Kevin Smith and his wife, Laura, of Longmont, Colorado, and Gary Smith of Boston.
