Dennis A. Damata, age 68, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at the Newton Wellesley Hospital in Newton Lower Falls due to complications of the COVID-19 virus. Dennis was born in Boston on October 4, 1952 to Alfred P. and Ruth H. (Doran) Damata. Raised in Hyde Park, Dennis attended Hyde Park High School graduating with the Class of 1970, happily spending those years playing guitar in the high school’s rock band. Dennis went on to attend the Western New England College, earning his associate degree in Law Enforcement.
Dennis started his long career proudly serving at the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department before he transferred to the Wareham Police Department until his retirement in 2010. He carried out positions as Patrolman, Sergeant and, later, Detective. After his retirement, Dennis continued to serve as a Special Officer for the Wareham Police Department. He was a former Selectman for the town of Wareham and was currently serving on the Board of Health until his passing.
Dennis opted to escape the harsh New England cold by wintering down in Fort Meyers, Florida. While there, he worked security at the JetBlue Park and Training Facility and spent his free time playing golf in the warm Florida sun.
Dennis loved to play golf, watching Boston sports and traveling. He was always planning some sort of trip, happy to jet-set and enjoy the world. Beyond anything else, Dennis loved his family. He was known to talk with his brothers every single day without falter and nothing made him smile more than spending time with his grandchildren. He was always smiling and was well loved.
Dennis was the loving partner to Mary Ann Brown of Walpole.
