Diane Carol (Gonidelis) Glavin, age 78, passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2026, at her home in Walpole, Massachusetts, with her loving husband by her side. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on February 8, 1947, she was the daughter of Charles and Antonia (Hangiotis) Gonidelis. Diane was raised in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston and attended the Mary Curley School in Jamaica Plain.
Diane moved to Jamaica Plain in the early 1960's and would raise her family there. She welcomed three children, Tom, Donna, and Richard, who were her pride and joy. Hugs and kisses were plentiful in her household, as Diane was an affectionate and loving mother. There was no shortage of laughter either, with Diane passing her sarcasm and good humor on to the children. She ran her household with a firm, but caring hand, ensuring the children were always well dressed, had a roof over their heads and a warm meal on their plates. Her words were law, and for good reason, teaching her children how to be independent and setting them up for success later in life.
Determined to make the best life for herself and her family, Diane returned to her education, earning her GED at 30 years old. She then began working as a Nurse's Aide at the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in Jamaica Plain and quickly enrolled in the hospital's school of nursing, becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. Not satisfied, Diane then enrolled at Bunker Hill Community College, completing an LPN to RN program, and receiving her Associates in Nursing in 1984. Diane would pass her state boards to become a Registered Nurse, working in this capacity at Shattuck, the Ellis Nursing Home in Norwood, and later Suffolk County Jail on Nashua Street in Boston and at MCI Norfolk.
Diane's time at Shattuck would change her life in many ways; not only did she advance in her career, but she also met the love of her life while there. Paul, a Corrections Officer, had transferred to the correctional unit of the hospital from MCI Norwood. The pair made quick friends, and that friendship turned into a love that lasted more than four decades. The couple moved in together, making their home in Jamaica Plain, living there until Christmas Eve in 2000, when they moved into their home in Walpole, Massachusetts. Diane married the love of her life, Paul Martin Glavin, on November 8, 2009, celebrating their union at Beckett's Restaurant in Walpole.
Diane's family was the most important thing in her life; she was a proud mother, doting nana, and devoted wife. She loved spending time with her family and found that their loving faces could bring a smile to hers, even on her toughest days.
She will be remembered for her love of Keno and always betting on the gray horses. Michael Jackson songs will always be sung with Diane in mind. She enjoyed time on the beach, especially at Houghton's Pond and Castle Island. Diane always saw the best in others, helping people and animals in need whenever she could, and teaching her family to do the same. She will be greatly missed.
