Diane Marie O'Connell

Diane Marie (Powers) O'Connell, age 64, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 in her Providence, Rhode Island home. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 20, 1957, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Alice (Maloney) Powers. She was raised in Walpole, Massachusetts, where she graduated from Walpole High School with the Class of 1975. Following her graduation, Diane began taking classes at Massasoit Community College.

Diane married William J. "Okie" O'Connell and together they made their home in Seekonk, Massachusetts, where they welcomed three children, Gregory, Kevin, and Cory. Throughout her married life, Diane worked as a waitress in various restaurants, including Corey's in Dedham, The Villa in Pawtucket, Alberto's in Easton, Ruby Tuesdays in Wrentham, and Charlie's at the Emerald Square Mall. More recently, Diane made her home in Providence and spent a short time in Texas to be close to her daughter.

When she wasn't working in a restaurant, Diane loved being at home with her children. She spent countless hours with them poolside, looked forward to beach trips all summer long, and their family vacations to Point Sebago. As her children's number one fan, Diane was always sure to attend their sporting and school events. Diane enjoyed some quiet time too, going for a walk or a bike ride, taking in her beautiful surroundings. After making her home in Providence, Diane began attending Renaissance Church and regularly participated in their Women's Bible Study.

Loving mother of Gregory D. O'Connell of Newton, Kevin W. O'Connell of Newton, and Cory A. Chudleigh and her husband, James, of Austin, Texas.

Cherished grandmother of Abigail, Ava, Adriana, Painter and Charli.

Former wife of William J. "Okie" O'Connell of Norwood.

Sister of Paul Powers and his wife, Maureen, of Easton, David Powers and his wife, Patti, of Plainville, Judith Gilberson and her husband, Scott, of Marshfield, Timothy Powers and his wife, Mary, of Mansfield, and Maureen Martone and her husband, Jeff, of Tennessee.

Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Diane's Life Celebration on Sunday, April 25, 2021 from 2 to 5 PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole.

A Memorial Service will be held in the Renaissance Church, 184 Broad Street, Providence, Rhode Island on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 11:00 AM with a luncheon to follow.
