Donald Paul Cahill

Donald Paul Cahill, age 68, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at his home in Norfolk, Massachusetts, with his loving family by his side. Born in Boston on July 24, 1958, he was the son of the late Arthur Donald and Rosalyn (Shubert) Cahill. Don grew up in the Mission Hill neighborhood before his family settled in Roslindale, where he graduated from Roslindale High School in 1976. After high school, he went to Wentworth Institute of Technology and earned his associate’s degree in Civil Engineering.

In 1979, Don’s life changed when he met Jean LaMela during her time at school. After a few months of pursuing her, she finally agreed to go out with him. Their connection grew stronger quickly, and they married on September 28, 1985, at Holy Rosary Church in Lawrence, Massachusetts. The couple settled in Roslindale, and Don eventually switched careers, joining Pipefitters Local 537 in Boston. He started as an apprentice, completed all his coursework, and built a successful career in the trade.

In 1990, with their family growing, Don and Jean moved to the quiet town of Norfolk. As a dad, Don loved spending time with his children, Jennifer and Don Jr. He often took them fishing at his favorite spots, patiently teaching them how to cast and see what they’d catch. Don was a fixture at his son’s sports games, often coaching baseball and hockey teams and cheering them on every step of the way.

Don was a big Boston Bruins fan, cheering for his team on TV and going to games at both the old and new Garden. His passion for sports also meant he enjoyed reading about his favorite stars and loved crime thrillers, especially those by James Patterson. When he wasn’t reading, Don loved hitting the open road on his Harley Davidson Softail. He and Jean enjoyed scenic rides through New England, often with his good friend Vinny, exploring bike week in Laconia and taking in the sights. At home, Don loved spending time with his family and relaxing with Jean’s delicious homemade recipes. He was overjoyed with the arrival of his grandchildren, always staying active in their lives and making sure they knew how much they are loved.

Beloved husband of Jean (LaMela) Cahill.

Loving father of Jennifer R. Cahill of Norfolk and Donald P. Cahill, Jr. and his wife, Michelle, of North Attleborough.

Cherished grandfather of Gavin A. Cahill, Olivia R. Cahill-Carr, Jackson W. Calderone, Anthony J. Cahill, and Michael A. Cahill.

Brother of Denise Cahill of Bourne.
