Dorothy A. Commerford

Dorothy A. (Hughes) Commerford, age 87, passed away on Tuesday. April 13, 2021 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, Massachusetts. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on September 23, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Margaret (Laughlin) Hughes.  She was raised in the Jamaica Plain area of Boston, where she graduated from Jamaica Plain High School with the Class of 1950.  Following her graduation, Dorothy took a position with Household Finance and later at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston.
 
Dorothy married her beloved husband, Robert T. Commerford, on September 7, 1952 in Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Jamaica Plain.  In 1968, Dot and Bob settled into their home on Summer Street in South Walpole, where they raised their twelve children.  In addition to raising her children, Dorothy owned “Town and Country Gifts” in Walpole Center for many years. Later taking a position with The Berry Insurance Agency.  However, most of all, she loved serving as the travel coordinator for trips to The Holy Love, Maranatha Spring and Shrine in Ohio.  More recently, in 2015, Dorothy settled into her home in Plainville, Massachusetts to be closer to her family.

Loving mother of Marie Denise Shea and her husband, Gerard, of Norwood, Deborah J. Brooks and her late husband, Timothy, of Plainville, Dorothy "Dee" Collins and her late husband, Kenny Heuklem, of North Attleboro, Gail S. Delaney of Bellingham, the late Jacqueline Penza and her surviving husband Kevin of East Walpole, Robert T. Commerford Jr. and his wife, Bridgett, of Stetson, Maine, Mary Ann Commerford of Franklin, Timothy L. Commerford of Fort Washington, Maryland, Celene R. Lannon and her husband, David, of North Attleboro, Peter J. Commerford and his wife, Linda, of Londonderry, New Hampshire, the late Sgt. Kevin M. Commerford, Janet E. Butler and her husband, Jason, of Warner, New Hampshire.
Cherished grandmother of twenty-eight and great grandmother of thirty-nine.
Sister of the late Mary E. Hughes, the late Ernest E. Hughes, and the late Margaret F. Kilday.
 
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Dorothy's Life Celebration on Friday, April 16, 2021 from 4 to 7 PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Mary's Church, South St (Rt 1A), Wrentham on Saturday April 17, 2021 at 10:30 AM with interment taking place in Saint Francis Cemetery in Walpole.  For those attending Dorothy's Mass, please follow the link http://bit.ly/dorothy0417 to register for the church.  For those who cannot attend Dorothy's Mass, the church will live stream the service at bit.ly/youtubePWC
