Elaine Allen (Field) Glebus, a long-time resident of Sharon, Massachusetts passed away on Tuesday, October 14th, 2025 at the age of 77 after a brief illness.
The beloved wife of the late Edward Peter Glebus and daughter of the late Robert and Ruth Field of Walpole, Elaine was born in Boston in 1948. The family first moved to Portland, Maine before permanently relocating to Walpole, MA in 1964 when Elaine was sixteen.
Elaine graduated from Walpole High School in 1966. She then obtained her Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene from Westbrook College in 1968. After a brief stint as a dental hygienist, she returned to school for a bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts and later earned a Master of Public Administration from Suffolk University, graduating first in her program.
Elaine married the love of her life, Ed Glebus, in July 1972, at Epiphany Episcopal Church in Walpole where they remained members for the rest of their lives. Their first home was in Foxborough. They later purchased the home in Sharon where they both lived until their respective deaths. Elaine treasured her marriage to Ed. Although she had many friends and family whom she loved very much, she missed Ed terribly after his death in February 2024.
Elaine thoroughly enjoyed her career as an administrator, first at Harvard University Medical School and later at Tufts University Medical School. She was deeply invested in the success of the medical school students. She was an honorary member of at least one Harvard Medical School Class and kept in touch with many students long after they graduated.
Elaine was a wonderful woman with a big heart. She brought laughter and joy to those around her and was never afraid to speak her mind. She had a great sense of humor and a timeless sense of style. Elaine described herself as a “magpie” since she loved all things that were sparkly, especially beautiful jewelry. She had a soft spot for dogs as her family always had them growing up. She doted on the dogs owned by friends, family and even strangers. She and Ed enjoyed golfing and traveling, visiting many places all over the world.
Elaine was a faithful and active member of Epiphany Episcopal Church in Walpole where she wore many hats over the years. As a fixture of the congregation, Elaine served as a member of the vestry (church board), a lay reader, a member of the altar guild, a stalwart volunteer at all church fundraisers, and the expert on making whipped cream for the Village Fair’s famous strawberry shortcake. And Elaine wasn’t afraid to get her hands dirty at the church. Over the past few years, you might find her polishing the brass railings that lead to the sanctuary or outside on her hands and knees pulling weeds and planting bulbs to help beautify the church grounds. It was always so important to her that the church look inviting and well kept.
She is survived by her sister, Linda Mattox and husband, Jeremy, of Seattle, Washington; sister-in-law, Barbara Lorusso and husband, Tony, of Walpole; brother-in-law, Joe, husband of the late Dorothy Glebus Morgan of Walpole; sister-in-law, Maria of Shrewsbury, wife of the late Richard Glebus. She was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Lillian Glebus Pataskas and husband, Victor.
Elaine is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews on the West Coast and locally, all of whom she cherished.
She will be greatly missed by family, friends, and neighbors, as well as her former colleagues and students.
Elaine's memorial service will be held early in the spring at Epiphany Episcopal Church, 62 Front Street, Walpole. Details will be forthcoming and can be found on the website of James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home.
