Eleanore M. "Penny" Allan

May 3, 1922 — December 22, 2022

Eleanore M. "Penny” Allan, 100, died peacefully on Thursday, December 22, 2022, after a short illness.

Eleanore Mae Eisner, daughter of Warren and Sarah “Sadie” Eisner, was born on May 3, 1922 in Boston and grew up in Walpole, graduating Walpole High School in 1940.

In 1943, she married Lyle A. Allan, her high school sweetheart.  They were lifelong residents of Walpole, building a home and raising their family there. She spent the last year of her life at Forge Hill in Franklin.

Penny leaves her three sons and their wives: Jackson and Jo-Ann; Lyle, Jr., and Joanne Festa, and Richard and Carol; her grandchildren Jessica, Joshua, and Elisha, and six great grandchildren: Jackson, Martin, Addison, Adeline, Ivan, and William.   She was also a “second mother” to Cindy and Debbie. Penny was very close to numerous loving nieces and nephews.  She is reunited with her husband Lyle who passed away far too soon in 1983.

Penny was a loving wife, a terrific mother, and a beloved grandmother and great-grandmother.  She was always willing to lend a hand and help anyone in need.  She had the gift of instantly establishing friendships with anyone she happened across.  She loved conversation and social gatherings but mostly enjoyed seeing folks together enjoying life.   She was extremely talented, whether in cooking, baking, sewing, knitting, crochet, or needlepoint.  At the annual Eastern States Exposition, her original hand-made Oriental rug design won 2nd prize against numerous entries from all 6 New England states.  At 100, she was still creating cross stitch Christmas ornaments, many of which she gave away to her friends.

Penny had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel.  Whether visiting relatives in Canada or flying to Iceland she loved seeing new places and meeting new people.  She was always active, reading or working on one of her crafts or walking.  Even at 100 she could be seen walking every day, greeting everyone she encountered with a kind word and smile.   Although small in stature, Penny will always remain large in our hearts.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Penny's Funeral Service in the Union Congregational Church, 55 Rhoades Avenue, East Walpole on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at 10:00 AM.  Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Walpole.

In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate donations to “United Church in Walpole” with “building fund” in the memo line. Mail to PO Box 287, Walpole, MA 02081.

Arrangements by James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, Walpole.
