Elizabeth “Lisa, Deedee” R. (Perkins) MacDonald, age 82, passed away at her daughter’s home on May 10, 2025, surrounded by family, books, and her paintings. Born in Boston on February 19, 1943, Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Elliot R. and Edith (Richardson) Perkins and grew up in a house that overlooked Spy Pond in Arlington, MA. She and her older sister, Eleanor, enjoyed ice skating during the winter months and escaped the hot summer nights to the sleeping porch with cool breezes off the water. She graduated from Arlington High School with the class of 1960 and went on to attend the University of Vermont where she met her future husband, Donald J. MacDonald. She attended Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston and married Donald in the summer of 1963. They moved to Walpole, MA, Donald’s hometown. After a brief move to Hanover, MA and welcoming a daughter, Elizabeth, they settled in Medfield, MA where they welcomed two more daughters, Sally and Cait. Elizabeth enjoyed being a mother, homemaker and was always reading and practicing a new skill as she was a devoted reader of non-fiction.
After raising her family, Elizabeth returned to school and earned an associates degree in travel from Dean College. She worked for many years being a home health care worker and enjoyed the company of the elderly clients in her care.
Throughout her life, Elizabeth was a talented oil painter and studied for years with the late Eleanor Holmes of Millis and Jonathan Fairbanks. She took many classes and workshops and valued the friendships she made with her fellow artists. Elizabeth loved painting and sharing her knowledge with her daughters and grandchildren who also enjoy the arts.
In her later years, she enjoyed road trips to see her grandchildren in Georgia, Ohio and Wyoming. Elizabeth loved yearly vacations to Boothbay Harbor, ME with her family and was always happy to eat lobster while watching the sun set over the ocean. Her afternoons spent with her younger grandchildren were a welcome treat filled with snacks, Legos and the sharing of stories. She was funny, caring, a wonderful mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to thank Kathleen from AccentCare Hospice along with the EMTs from Millis Fire Department and James Delaney and Melissa Willard for their kindness.
