Erik Anello Sprague, age 45, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at his home in Walpole, Massachusetts. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts, on July 13, 1980, he was the son of Stephen A. and Joanne L. (Anello) Sprague. Growing up in Walpole, Erik developed a lifelong passion for soccer, which he carried with him through his years at Walpole High School, where he proudly made the varsity team as a sophomore. After graduating in 1998, he headed to Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, to pursue a Political Science degree. During college, Erik spent a semester abroad in England, where he embraced the local culture and cheered on Arsenal on the soccer field. He also dabbled in politics, taking time off to support his grandmother, Jo Ann Sprague’s, campaign for state senator back in Massachusetts.
Once he graduated from Bowdoin in 2002 with a major in Political Science and a minor in History, Erik began working at the Massachusetts State House. He spent time assisting various state representatives and a state senator, gaining valuable experience. Later, he worked with an auditing team at the Division of Banks, and more recently, he served as a dedicated customer service representative at Dentsply Sirona in Waltham.
Throughout his life, Erik’s love for sports was a big part of who he was. Whether he was on the soccer field, traveling to England to see Arsenal play, or catching up on Boston’s teams, he enjoyed every moment. He was especially passionate about the Boston Celtics, often making the trek from the nosebleeds at the Garden for a better view of his favorite player, Paul Pierce. As a devoted Patriots fan, Erik was excited to see Drake Maye take charge of the team this year, predicting they’d make it to the Super Bowl.
Erik was also a true movie buff, always quoting lines from his favorite films—especially the Star Wars saga. As a young boy, Erik collected Star Wars memorabilia, most notably action figures. Once in college, he saw the value of his collection and began selling different pieces to help offset his school expenses. He made countless connections worldwide, both buying and selling memorabilia, ensuring his collection was appropriately graded for resale. In recent years, Erik developed an interest in the stock market. His in-depth research and resulting wise investments were a great source of pride for him.
Erik will always be remembered for his ever present dimpled smile, infectious laughter and dry sense of humor. He could get anyone to laugh hysterically about anything. Erik will also be remembered for his kindness and empathy towards others. Erik will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
