Evelyn T. Betro

February 16, 1930 — May 17, 2020

Evelyn T. Betro, age 90, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2020 at The Atrium at Faxon Woods in Quincy, Massachusetts.  Born in Providence, Rhode Island on February 16, 1930, she was the daughter of the late William and Florence (Anderson) Demers.  She spent her early years in Bristol, Rhode Island, but at the age of 8, her family settled in Walpole, Massachusetts, where she graduated from Walpole High School with the Class of 1948.  Following her graduation, Evelyn took a position with Bird and Son in East Walpole, working in the accounting department.

Evelyn was introduced to her husband to be, Armando J. Betro, by a mutual friend, Jim Honohan.  They were married on October 11, 1952 in Saint Mary's Church in East Walpole.  The young couple made their home together on Union Street in East Walpole, where Evelyn took on the role of a homemaker, raising and caring for her four children.  Ten years later, in 1962, Evelyn moved her family to their new home on Breezewood Lane in Walpole, maintaining her role as a homemaker until her youngest was enrolled in school.  She returned to her career at Bird and Son and later, continued working as a bookkeeper for Hill Machine Shop.

As a couple who enjoyed staying active, Evelyn and Armando walked six miles each day, always making sure to say hello to their neighbors along the way.  They also looked forward to their annual drive to Venice, Florida, where they spent their winters in a warmer climate.  While Evelyn enjoyed keeping busy, she enjoyed her quiet time too.  She was an avid reader, looking out for a new favorite book that she could unwind with.

Beloved wife of the late Armando J. Betro.
Loving mother of Deborah J. Carlson and her husband, David, of Foxborough, Susan Betro of Canton, David W. Betro of Franklin, and Steven M. Betro, and his wife, Lisa, of Foxborough.
Cherished grandmother of Jennifer, Matthew, Adam, and Jonathan and great grandmother of 4.
Sister of Henry Demers of Florida, the late Ruth Flynn and the late Mildred Nickerson.

As a result of the ongoing and ever-developing health crisis in the world and with genuine concern for the people whom they love, Evelyn's family has decided that her funeral services will be private.  A Celebration of Life will be held when we return to calmer and healthier times so that we may gather without boundaries to honor, remember, and celebrate her life.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452.
