F. Duncan Campbell, age 83, passed away on Monday, December 21st, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton, Massachusetts. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on November 19th, 1937, he was the son of the late Clarence F. and Eleanor (Mills) Campbell. He was raised in Walpole and graduated from Walpole High School with the Class of 1956. While attending Walpole High School, he was a part of the Walpole Hockey Team, and was inducted into Walpole High School’s Hall of Fame.
Following his graduation, Duncan attended North Bridgeton Academy through 1957, when he was recruited to attend Saint Lawrence University to play hockey as only one of two American students, prior to his graduation with the Class of 1961. While at Saint Lawrence University, he played in the Frozen Four College Championship Tournament, three out of his four years of college. He was later inducted to The Saint Lawrence University Hockey Hall of Fame.
Duncan married Gail J. Guinta on November 25th, 1961 in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Port Chester, New York. They returned to Walpole soon after to start a family. Duncan started working at Winslow Warren Insurance Agency upon his graduation from Saint Lawrence University, working there diligently until he was able to purchase the company in 1975, remaining an employee for over 60 years. Upon his return to Walpole, Duncan proved to be an involved member of his community. He was a member of the Air Force Reserve, the Walpole Lions Club, the Norton Country Club and he was part of the coaching staff at Walpole High School. He also volunteered with the Walpole Youth Hockey Program.
When Duncan wasn’t spending time with his family, he was always trying to make people happy. As his time as a Walpole Lion, he developed a way to help the less fortunate around Christmas Time in secret, providing those in need by reaching out to each school and seeing who needs a little extra care. In turn, he would help provide them with necessities and a warm meal. Not for any notoriety, but out of the goodness of his heart. He was an avid golfer. He suffered with Multiple Sclerosis for 30 years and never complained.
