Filomena Tarara

January 28, 1925 — September 29, 2020

Filomena (Tardanico) Tarara, age 95, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 in her Walpole, Massachusetts home, surrounded by her loving family.  Born in Riesi, Italy on January 28, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Filippa (Pasqualina) Tardanico.  She was raised and educated in Riesi, gathering her skills as a seamstress from her family.

Filomena married her beloved husband, Frank Tarara, on September 28, 1945.  The young couple made their home in Riesi for a short time before moving to Belgium in 1946.  In an effort to provide her family with a better life, Filomena kissed her husband goodbye, as he immigrated to the United States in 1954.  Two years later, Frank sent for her and their three sons and Filomena made their home in the Jamaica Plain area of Boston.  As a talented seamstress, Filomena quickly found work with the Tremont Clothing Company, making suits and jackets for men.  After welcoming her two daughters, Filomena left her position at Tremont Clothing, returning to her role as a homemaker, raising and caring for her family.  As her daughters grew up, Filomena returned to work, taking a position with Schrafft's in Sullivan Square.  In 1994, Filomena and Frank left the big city, making their home in the small town of Walpole, Massachusetts.

Filomena's stitching skills did not end with her work in the clothing field.  She spent countless hours crocheting, making tablecloths, pillows, and curtains.  She also enjoyed tending to her many plants in and around her home, as well as playing cards with her close friends and family.  Most of all, she was a dedicated family woman.  She always made sure her children were well cared for and was absolutely delighted at the birth of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Beloved wife of the late Frank Tarara.
Loving mother of Joseph Tarara of Framingham, Gaetano Tarara of Dennis, Frank Tarara of Falmouth, Fay A. Fitzgerald and her husband, John, of Walpole, and Gina Mazzotta and her husband, Joseph, of Sharon;

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Filomena's Life Celebration on Sunday, October 4, 2020 from 2 to 5 PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole.  Please note, masks will be required and a line will form outside the building to ensure enough room inside for social distancing.

As a result of the ongoing and ever-developing health crisis in the world and with genuine concern for the people whom they love, Filomena’s family has decided that her funeral mass will be private with interment taking place in Saint Michael's Cemetery in Roslindale.
