Francis X. Foley

March 13, 1939 — November 23, 2022

Francis X. "Fran" Foley, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at his home in Walpole, Massachusetts.  Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on March 13, 1939, he was the son of the late Stephen J. and Margaret J. (Donahue) Foley.  He was raised in Walpole, where he graduated from Walpole High School with the Class of 1956.  Following his graduation, Fran spent a year working various jobs, including with the Walpole DPW, Highway Bowl-A-Way, and the Bailey family.  Fran returned to his education, taking courses at Stonehill College, where he earned his bachelors degree with a focus on education in 1961.  He quickly took a teaching position with Walpole High School in the mathematics department.

Fran married his beloved wife, Evelyn C. Lanzoni, on June 30, 1962, at Saint Catherine's Church in Norwood, Massachusetts.  The young couple made their home in East Walpole, where they welcomed four children, Stephen, Paul, Deborah, and Brian.  Fran continued his career with the high school, offering instruction in algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and probability.  In the 1970s, Fran was at the forefront of the computer movement, and was instrumental in obtaining computers at the high school.  In addition to his teaching career, Fran was named system administrator for the computer department within both the Town of Walpole and Walpole High School.  He retired in 1999 after more than thirty-five years of dedicated service to his students.

Throughout his life, Fran was an avid bowler, and was a member of leagues at Highway Bowl-A-Way, the Norwood Sports Center, and PJ's Lanes at Pete's Dream in Walpole.  In addition, he loved playing a round of golf with his family and friends at area courses in the nice weather.  Back at home, Fran looked forward to watching his hometown teams, especially the Red Sox, and was always sure to catch the latest PGA Tournament.

Fran's family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Mirriam Clark for all of her help over the past three years.
