Frank J. Stankevicius

Frank J. Stankevicius, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 in the Veterans Administration Hospital in West Roxbury. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 21, 1939, he was the son of the late Frank Stankevicius and Anna (Stasunas) Davulis. He was raised in South Boston, where he graduated from South Boston High School with the Class of 1957. Following his graduation, Frank enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving his country with the SeaBees, aboard the USS Independence. Frank was honorably discharged in December of 1959, after earning the rank of Electrician's Mate Third Class. Upon his return home to Southie, Frank began his career at Western Electric in Watertown, MA where he met the love of his life, his wife Ellen.

Frank married his beloved wife, Ellen C. O'Gorman, on May 6, 1967 in Saint Columbkille's Church in Brighton. Together they made their home in Brighton, before settling in Dedham a year later, where they welcomed two children, Frank and Karen. Frank's career in plumbing led him to work at a few area hospitals including Waltham Hospital and Newton-Wellesley Hospital. Eventually he was employed by Gary Rubin, who managed several high rises in Boston and presented him the opportunity to serve as the head of maintenance. In addition to his work schedule, Frank saw the need to better his own education and took courses at Newbury Junior College, earning his Associate's Degree with a focus on business. In July of 1987, Frank and Ellen left their home in Dedham, making their new home in the small community of Walpole, Massachusetts. After several years with Gary Rubin, Frank took a position with the MIT Lincoln Labs at Hanscom Air Force Base, serving as the facility plumber. While Frank officially retired in 2004, he never stopped helping his friends and neighbors with any plumbing project that popped up.

When Frank wasn't hard at work, he enjoyed relaxing by the water, casting his fishing rod into one of his favorite local fishing spots with either his brother or his grandson. As an avid bowler, Frank was a member of the Riverdale Bowling League and several leagues at the Norwood Sports Center, earning many trophies over the years. He was a very proud member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 42 in Dedham and had held the position of Commander in the past few years. Back at home, he enjoyed some quiet time, writing poetry and short stories. Most of all, he was a dedicated family man, who adored spending time with his grandchildren.

Loving father of Frank C. Stankevicius of Warwick, Rhode Island and Karen A. Stankevicius and her partner, Robert Bates, of Walpole.

Cherished grandfather of Nicholas A. Bates, Ellie P. Bates, and Jackson B.D. Bates.

Brother of George A. Stankevicius and his wife, Nijole, of Natick.

Loving uncle to many nieces and nephews

As a result of the ongoing and ever developing health crisis in the world and with genuine concern for the people whom they love, Frank's family has decided that his funeral services will be private, with interment taking place in Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.
