George Glaropoulos, 89, of Walpole, MA passed away on February 9, 2024. He was born in Gargaliani, Messenia, Greece. Son of the late Dimitrios and Vasiliki (Anagnostopoulos) Glaropoulos.
In 1957, at age of 22 George came to America through Baltimore, Maryland with a mere $10 in his pocket. He soon came through New York and settled in Somerville, MA. He worked various jobs to support himself. He was living the American Dream.
He met the love of his life Matina Constas and they married in 1962. They started their life together in Jamaica Plain, MA and later made their home in Norwood, MA for 20 years, where they raised four sons. They later moved on to Dover, MA and recently moving to Walpole, MA to be close to their children.
In 1970 he opened his first Dunkin Donuts Franchise, and he went onto open another Dunkin Donuts location in Walpole, MA in 1980 and was still actively working.
George was always working around his home or stopping in at coffee shop. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, many friends, and his loyal customers and employees. He was a sports fanatic and loved to watch all of the New England sports teams. George and Matina traveled back and forth to their second home in Greece often. He was a devout Orthodox Christian.
George is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Matina (Constas) Glaropoulos. Devoted father of Demetrios “Jimmy” Glaropoulos, Basilios “Bill” Glaropoulos and his wife Erica, Christos “Chris” Glaropoulos and his partner Sarah, and Constantine ”Costa” Glaropoulos and his wife Karen. Cherished Papou of Katie, George, Christian, Terrence, George, Matina, Logan and Matina.
Loving brother of Konstantinos Glaropoulos and his wife Anna, and the late Anna Stavropoulos. Loving brother in law of John Stavropoulos. Loving uncle of Vicki Nikopoulos and her husband Michael, Dimitrios Glaropoulos and his wife Roula, Demetrios Stavropoulos, and George Stavropoulos and his wife Eleni. Also survived by many relatives and friends here and in Greece.
Funeral Service on Friday, February 16, 2024 at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral of New England, 514 Parker Street, Boston, MA at 10:30AM. Please go directly to church.
Visitation of Thursday, February 15, 2024 at the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole, MA from 4PM to 8PM. Relatives and friends are kindlly invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the above named church.
Burial in The Gardens Cemetery, West Roxbury, MA.
