George Nelson Hope

George Nelson "Nellie" Hope, age 86, of Walpole MA has passed away on December 20, 2025. Born on July 15, 1939, he was the 4th son of 8 children of the late George Nelson Hope and Hazel (Bowley) Duncan.

He married the love of his life Jeanne Hope at a young age and shared 64 memorable years together raising their three children, George, Kenneth and Dyanne.

Dad worked hard to support his family often working two or three jobs at a time. Dad spent much of his professional life with JPS Equipment/Oiltrol of Dedham, Mass, during a formative period when the company expanded from heavy-freight and equipment services into the development, deployment, and maintenance of marine barrier fabric systems used in environmental protection. His work was both physical and managerial in nature, encompassing hands-on installation, production oversight, field maintenance, and the coordination of crews responsible for transporting and deploying containment systems. Dad took great pride in being part of a team whose work required precision, reliability, and responsibility in real-world conditions. He received his certification as a diver assisting and overseeing installation processes.

He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying camping, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, ice fishing and Nascar. During many of Dad’s relaxing times, you would find him playing pool, throwing or watching darts, listening to music, or hanging at the Club, his home away from home. Dad was an established member of the Walpole Sportsman's Club and the music venue Fallout Shelter of Norwood, MA.

Times spent with him were often filled with laughter. He had a sense of humor and never took life too seriously, always finding a way to bring a smile to those around him with his lighthearted teasing and gentle mischief.

Loving Father of George N. Hope Jr./partner Judith Whitmarsh of Norton, MA; Kenneth W. Hope/wife Martha of Huntington Beach, CA; Dyanne White/husband Robert of Wrentham, MA.

Cherished Grandfather of Chelsey White, Joseph Crehan, Christian Crehan, Victoria Hope, Morgan Hope, Sean Jacobs and Kathleen Jacobs.

Cherished Great Grandfather of Maeve Makenzie Short, whom he had many fun times playing harmonica with, and of course, teasing.

Also survived by his sister Ethel Monroe/husband Frank, and many nieces nephews and cousins.
