Henry John Scanzio

Henry John Scanzio, age 102, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, Massachusetts. He was born in Boston on July 4, 1924, to the late Henry and Adeline Scanzio. Growing up in various neighborhoods across Boston, Henry graduated from Boston English High School. After graduation, he proudly enlisted in the United States Army to serve during World War II. He was stationed with the 82nd Airborne Division and earned his jump wings as a paratrooper. After an honorable discharge in the fall of 1944, Henry returned home to Boston and worked as a whiskey delivery driver for Whitehall Liquors.

Henry married his beloved wife, Agnes M. Hayes, and together they built a warm home in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Boston. As their family expanded, Henry took a job working with his uncle, Andy Boch, at Boch Rambler American in Norwood in the parts department. In 1954, he and Agnes moved their family to Walpole, Massachusetts, where they happily raised their four children. Henry quickly found his passion was in the sales department connecting with people. He was dedicated to his sales role at Boch Motors, and his hard work did not go unnoticed, leading to a promotion to General Manager. As a young dad, Henry purchased a summer home in Onset, Massachusetts, and enjoyed exploring the waters around Onset, both by motor and sail, with his family aboard one of his boats. He loved life on the Cape, racing around in his Fiat, riding mopeds, or simply spending quality time with his loved ones.

Despite his love for fun and adventure, Henry was always committed to his responsibilities at work and eventually became Vice President of Boch Motors. After retiring from the retail side of the business, he came out of retirement to join the wholesale side and became a District Sales Manager with Subaru of New England. His passion for cars extended beyond his career; he loved always having the newest and nicest cars, often surprising his family with a fresh off-the-lot vehicle.

In retirement, Henry discovered a new passion for travel. He and Agnes traveled across Europe to places like Italy, Spain, and Ireland. Together they purchased a condo in the Dominican Republic where they loved to enjoy the culture of Santo Domingo. Later, back home in the U.S., they enjoyed spending their winters in Venice, Florida, soaking up the sun and escaping New England’s cold and snow.

Loving father of Deborah A. Scanzio of Bellingham, Kenneth J. Scanzio and his wife Carol of North Attleborough, the late Henry J. Scanzio, Jr. and his surviving wife Carla of Camarillo, California, and the late Robert Scanzio.

Cherished grandfather of Andrea, Andrew, Deborah, Robert, Eric, Thomas, Michelle, Carrie, and Kenneth; and great grandfather to many loving great grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Henry's visitation on Thursday, September 3rd, 2026, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 4th, 2026, at 10:00 am in Blessed Sacrament Church, 10 Diamond Street, Walpole. Interment will follow at Saint Francis Cemetery in Walpole.
