James Aloysius McHugh

James Aloysius McHugh, 65 of Plainville MA passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loving family on Friday, August 7, 2026 following a long time illness with recent rapid decline. Jim or “Jimmy” as he was fondly called by many, grew up in Hillsborough New Jersey. Jim was the eldest son of his late father Neal J. McHugh Sr. and his mother, Ann Marie Fallon McHugh of Wilkes-Barre, PA.

Jim was born on June 17, 1961, in North Plainfield, NJ and was the eldest of the McHugh children. Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Denise McHugh of Plainville, stepson Christopher Kimball and his wife, Mary Beth Kimball of Randolph Massachusetts, stepson Daniel Kimball and his wife, Kristen Kimball of Whitman, Massachusetts.

Jim is also survived by his siblings, Neal McHugh and wife Diane McHugh from Point Pleasant, NJ. Kathleen Carey and husband Pete Carey from Middletown, NJ and Michael McHugh and wife Kathy McHugh from Hillsborough, NJ.

Jim also had a very large extensive family of cousins, nieces and nephews all living in NJ, PA, NH and Ohio.

Beginning as a consultant, Jim worked for 30 years first in 1995 at BWH Information Systems, then as a full-time employee in Partners Application Development, all the way through to MGB Digital’s Application Development Team – Jim architected, wrote and supported mission-critical applications and interfaces. He helped design and build the paging system and Partners Phone Directory. He created essential solutions in the telephony space, including Telecom operators’ tools, APIs, faxing and texting bus platforms, and automated telephony systems. And in the Epic era, he jumped eagerly into providing IVR and faxing workflows, and integrations with existing systems. Most importantly, he did all of that with a good-natured grace, easy to work with and always willing to help.

Outside of the office, Jim enjoyed photography and videography – really, technology in all its forms. Jim was a food connoisseur, however this only referred to a small list of preferred foods known as “Jim approved foods”; he enjoyed New Jersey pizza, cheesesteaks, and basic staples. He loved watching football (especially his NY Giants Football Team), eating something from his extremely-small list of foods (maybe a turkey club from Jersey Mike’s, maybe some Pizzeria Regina – the only non-New Jersey pizza he would tolerate), and spending time with his wife Denise (also a long-time PHS/MGB employee). When the annual Partners IS Holiday Party tradition came to an end in the late-2000s, it was Jim and Denise who immediately stepped in and organized the legendary McHugh Bash for several additional years.

His technical and personal legacy is profound, and everyone who worked with him will miss him immensely.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Jim's visitation on Sunday, August 16th, 2026 from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole.

A Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated on Monday, August 17th, 2026, in Saint Martha's Church, 221 South Street, Plainville, MA, at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private.
