James L. Roberts, Sr.

James L. Roberts, Sr., age 88, passed away in the Boston Medical Center on Wednesday, November 28, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.  Born in Walpole, Massachusetts on May 4, 1930, he was the son of the late Frederick and Edna (Balduf) Roberts.  Jim was raised in Walpole and attended Walpole Public Schools. 

 

Jim left his education to begin working in an effort to help support his family.  He worked various jobs, prior to enlisting in the United States Army in 1950.  While on active duty during the Korean War, Jim was stationed with the 1st Calvary Division Signal Corps in both Korea and Japan.  He was honorably discharged in August of 1953, after earning the rank of Corporal.  Upon his return to Walpole, he resumed working for Harrison Oil, before taking a machinist’s position with New England Tap Company in Foxboro.  Jim worked long hours to support his growing family, picking up another machinist’s position at Joe Kurtz Machinery and driving for Central Taxi.  He eventually retired from New England Tap in 1992, after many years of dedicated service. 

 

In his spare time, Jim enjoyed roller skating and collecting coins. He looked forward to his visits to Country Kitchen in Walpole, where he would drive himself daily to enjoy his coffee and donut. He also enjoyed watching classic films and as a proud Army Veteran enjoyed military films.

 

Loving father of Robert W. Roberts and his wife Marilyn of North Easton, John F. Roberts of Wrentham, David F. Roberts and his wife Roberta of Walpole, Patricia A. Owens and her husband Craig of Franklin, Steven A. Roberts and his wife Nancy of Attleboro, Kevin A. Roberts of Elkton, Kentucky, the late William T. Roberts, and the late James L. “Hat” Roberts, Jr. and his surviving wife, Brenda of Foxboro. Former husband of the late Dorothy A. Wilbur of Walpole.

 

Cherished grandfather of 9 and great grandfather of many.

 

Brother of Thomas Roberts of New Hampshire, the late Margaret St. Cyr, the late Frederick Roberts, the late Edward Roberts, the late Ralph Roberts, the late Kenneth Roberts, the late Herbert Roberts, and the late Paul Roberts. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

 

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Jim’s Life Celebration on Thursday, December 6, 2018 from 5 to 8 PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole.  A cemetery service will be held in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne on Friday, December 7, 2018 at 11:30 AM.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: The Brain Aneurysm Foundation 269 Hanover St. #3, Hanover, MA 02339, https://www.bafound.org/.
