John James Balfe

July 8, 1964 — March 6, 2022

John James Balfe, age 57, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2022, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, with his loving wife by his side.  Born in Boston on July 8, 1964, he was the son of the late Joseph and Anne (Crowley) Balfe.  He was raised in Milton, Massachusetts, attending Milton Public Schools, until beginning his high school education at the Norfolk County Agricultural High School in Walpole.  While focusing on landscape design at the Aggie, John met Sandra M. Black, and instantly fell in love.  The young couple attended prom together before John's graduation with the Class of 1982.

Following his graduation, John began focusing on his electrical career, joining the ranks of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 103 in Boston. As a third-generation union electrician, John specialized in fire alarm systems, primarily working for J&M Brown Company.  His calm demeanor and sharp wit led him to be an outstanding mentor to others in his trade.  Beyond his electrical work, John’s meticulous attention to detail and strong work ethic allowed him to work on anything mechanical, including his Cadillac and 1960 Falcon.

John married his high school sweetheart, Sandra, on July 3, 1993, in Saint Mary's Church in Dedham and together, they made their home in Wrentham. John maintained his position with the Union for thirty-seven years, providing electrical services throughout the City of Boston.

When he wasn't hard at work, John loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle with all his bike friends.  John looked forward to trips to Bike Week in Laconia, New Hampshire, where he and Sandra spent countless hours riding the scenic roads of the White Mountains.  The year was never complete without a trip to Martha's Vineyard to visit with Uncle Tom.  As the colder months rolled in, John put his bike away and broke out his skis, taking trips with his nephew, Nick, to Sunday River.  Back at home, John loved relaxing with his dog, Radar, and cat, Billy, faithfully by his side.

Beloved husband of Sandra M. (Black) Balfe.

Brother of Kathleen Sullivan and her late husband, Michael, of Andover, Dennis Balfe of Norfolk, Joanne DeConto and her husband, David, of Pocasset, Patrick Balfe and his wife, Meg, of Holbrook, and Michael Balfe and his wife, Kim, of Mansfield.

Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
