John Doty

March 29, 1946 — August 21, 2021

John Edward Doty, age 75, passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, Massachusetts.  Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on March 29, 1946, he was the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Crowley) Doty.  He was raised in Cambridge, where he graduated from Cambridge Latin High School with the Class of 1964.  Following his graduation, John became a member of the Army National Guard.  From Army khaki to Air Force blue, John then enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country during the Vietnam War.  Upon his honorable discharge, John returned home to Cambridge and worked in the US Post Office. Eventually creating his own newspaper distribution service in Norwood for a period of time.
John married his beloved wife, Susan Brands, on August 5, 1972 at the Martha-Mary Chapel in Sudbury, Massachusetts followed by a celebration at the Wayside Inn.  They initially made their home together in Framingham, Massachusetts while building their family home in Walpole, Massachusetts.  After settling into their dream home in 1974, John and Susan raised their two children, Jeannette and John.  John loved his Walpole home and spent many happy holidays celebrating with his friends and extended family there.  During his free time, he loved watching crime and drama series in “his” rocking chair.
John began his career in the hospitality field when he took a bartender's position at Liam's Irish Tavern in Framingham.  His social personality made a perfect fit for a career in the service industry.  He went on to work at Speroni's Restaurant in Medway, where he worked as bartender and lounge manager for over twenty-five years.  Following managing the lounge at Speroni's, John also managed the lounge at the Sherborn Inn and then the Framingham Country Club until his retirement in 2012.
While John worked extremely hard, he always made time to enjoy a round of golf with his friends at the Franklin Country Club, where he held a membership for over twenty-five years. When the winter months would shut down the golf course, John took his enthusiasm for the outdoors to northern New England, spending many annual family vacations on the ski slopes. John’s favorite thing to do was vacation with his family. Each summer for over 30 years, the family traveled to Martha’s Vineyard visiting Edgartown to enjoy his favorite beaches. The first beach day for John was always reserved for his infamous no sunblock lobster burn.
More than anything John treasured the moments spent with those he loved, including the family dogs Buffy, Tasha and Kodi.  He enjoyed taking his wife and children out to dinner on a regular basis or attending a family get-together with his brothers and sisters.  Later in his life John was overjoyed at the birth of his grandchildren.  He took an active role in their lives helping to babysit and attending their events. John was happiest when surrounded by his grandchildren whom he adored. They will miss him dearly.
