John Richard Falvey

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Richard Falvey, age 74, on Sunday, August 17, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He passed peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Boston in 1951, John was the son of the late John Joseph and Rose F. (Albanese) Falvey.

John grew up in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston before his family moved to Walpole, Massachusetts, in 1962. A proud graduate of Xaverian Brothers High School, Class of 1969, John continued his education at Northeastern University graduating from their co-op program in 1975. He returned to Walpole and began his career in sales, which took him to various locations across the United States, making him well-traveled both professionally and personally. He anchored much of his adult life in Connecticut and upstate New York, where he built long-lasting friendships over hours-long conversations at the coffee shop, deli, or local Italian restaurant.

John had a zest for living, but always on his own terms. A talented pool player, golfer, guitar player, and bowler, John was known for his signature swoop of his right leg after each roll of the ball. His love for music, especially oldies and classic rock, was ever-present.

John cherished the companionship of those closest to him and had a unique ability to make people feel listened to and valued. His friendships crossed state lines and stood the test of time.

In 2019, which John would describe as “the winter of his life,” he returned home to Massachusetts, fueled by a deep desire to focus on his health and reconnect with his children and their growing families.

Back in Walpole, he became deeply involved with the Turning Point Support and Recovery Center, where he contributed greatly as a mentor, friend, and podcast producer. Through this work, John found a renewed sense of purpose, and it reflected his deep-rooted spirituality and belief in helping others find peace and healing. His faith and compassion became central to who he was, guiding him in his relationships and his desire to give back to the community. He shared his final years at home with Maryann and their three dogs Taz, Lola, and Roxy.

John is survived by his loving children: Darren M. Falvey of Norfolk, Lauren M. Hernandez and her husband Nick of Norton, and Kerry A. Williams and her husband Bradford of Danvers. He was also the proud grandfather of Charlotte Hernandez, step-grandfather to Kendall and Kylie, and cherished brother to Janis Falvey Wilson and her husband Charles of Chatham, New Jersey. He was a beloved Uncle Mustache to Amanda Saunders and her husband Timothy of Bethesda, Maryland, and Christopher Wilson of Chatham, New Jersey. He was formerly married to Maryann (Gentili) Falvey of Walpole.

A Life Celebration for John will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 9:00 to 11:00 am at the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. A service will follow at 11:00 am, with interment at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in John’s name to Turning Point Support and Recovery Center. Donations can be made online at https://turningpointrecoverycenter.org/donate/ or by mailing a check payable to "Bay State Community Services" with “Turning Point” in the memo line to: Turning Point c/o Lisa Scanlon Bay State Community Services, 222 Forbes Road, Suite 303, Braintree, MA 02184
