John L. "Jack" Glennon, Jr.

April 12, 1950 — April 10, 2023

John L. "Jack" Glennon Jr., age 72, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2023, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts surrounded by loving family.  Born on April 12, 1950, he was the son of the late John L. and Nora Rose (Fredrick) Glennon.  Jack was raised in Levittown, New York, with his 11 siblings.  His childhood was filled with adventures, sports and music.  Jack attended Island Trees High School, class of 1968, where he met his lifelong sweetheart and the love of his life, Linda.  He was active in sports including football, wrestling, basketball, and track.  He also had a band that played many high school dances and parties in the area. Following his graduation, Jack was off to Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York to pursue a history degree.

While at Marist, Jack married his beloved wife, Linda P. Wissert, on January 18, 1969.  Together, Jack and Linda made their home just off campus, welcoming two sons, John, III and Christopher.  As a young father still working toward his degree, Jack's classmates aptly gave him the nickname "Papa Jack," a name that he would proudly carry through the rest of his life.  In addition to attending class, Jack worked several jobs, taking positions with Western Publishing, and bartending at local bars.  Jack and Linda also served as superintendents of the building they lived in with many Marist friends.  Jack worked hard to complete his education in the prescribed four years, earning his bachelor's degree with the Class of 1972.  After graduation, Jack’s family and career continued to grow with the birth of his daughters Amy and Erin, and a move to Hyde Park, New York to begin his career in the insurance industry with New York Life.

In 1974, after visiting his brother at Boston College, and loving Massachusetts, Jack and Linda moved the family to Framingham, where Jack worked in several restaurants in order to build a nest egg before settling in the town of Medfield, Massachusetts.  With a comfortable home for his family, Jack returned to his career in the insurance field, working for companies such as TransAmerica and PepsiCo, and later serving as an insurance sales trainer. In 1993 Jack and Linda made a new home in Walpole, Massachusetts where they resided until a move in 2014 to a lovely retirement community in Millis.

Throughout his life, Jack worked hard to provide for his family, but also to pursue his love of music.  As a talented guitar player and vocalist, Jack provided hours of entertainment at the Backyard in Newton, Foley's in Norwood, as well as the Kylemore and Finnegan's Wake in Walpole.  While most evenings he performed as a solo act, Jack welcomed the opportunity to play with his band, the FOGS.  Jack's notoriety pulled him to book gigs as far out as New York, Cape Cod, and Hampton Beach.  He was tapped for weddings, parties, and even political events, since everyone loved his beautiful voice and infectious energy.  In recent years, Jack took his show to area nursing homes, entertaining the residents, and found that they were among his favorite fans.

As a busy man, Jack always found a way to give back to his community.  He regularly volunteered with the Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus, helping those members throughout his community.  Jack also gave back to his faith community, bringing his musical talents to his church, and taking part in the prison ministry with Bethany House.  He also assisted with Cursillo retreat weekends.

When he wasn't hard at work or volunteering, Jack looked forward to a day out on the golf course with family and friends. He learned the game of golf by caddying with his brothers at country clubs around Long Island. He was a regular at George Wright Golf Course in Hyde Park, hitting the links with his brothers. He also played with friends in Hilton Head, and on the Cape and most recently with his neighborhood friends.  Most of all, Jack was devoted to his family, treasuring every moment he spent with those he loved so dearly. He was a force larger than life, and filled the room with his love and music.
