John "Jack" M. Pourbaix, DDS

June 18, 1926 — January 23, 2021

John "Jack" M. Pourbaix, DDS, age 94, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 23, 2021 in his Norwood, Massachusetts home, surrounded by his loving family.  Born in Davidson, Saskatchewan, Canada on June 18, 1926, he was the son of the late Eugene and Anna Veronica (Rooney) Pourbaix.  Jack was raised in Domremy, Saskatchewan, where, at a young age, he found his love for hockey.  He attended Domremy High School with his six classmates, graduating in 1944 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1948.  After teaching at Birch Hills High School for one year, Jack returned to his own education, enrolling in the dental program at the University of Alberta.  In 1953, Jack earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree and took an internship position at Forsyth Dental Infirmary in Boston.

At Forsyth, Jack met his wife to be, Claire Ann MacDonald, who was on staff at the time.  Jack and Claire married on February 5, 1955 at Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Jamaica Plain.  They moved to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, where Jack worked at his own dental practice and welcomed their first two children, John, Jr. and Michele.  In 1960, the family moved to Norwood, Massachusetts.  Once settled in Norwood, Jack and Claire welcomed their third and fourth children Eugene and Jill.  From 1960 until his retirement in 1993, Jack served patients at his dental practice in the neighboring town of Walpole.

When he wasn't hard at work, Jack could be found on the golf course at Walpole Country Club, where he was a member for over 50 years, or local tennis courts.  He loved sports and could be found cheering for the Bruins and Red Sox whenever they were playing.  As a throwback to his hockey days, Jack also looked forward to the opportunity to coach in the Norwood Nuggets hockey program over the years.  He was an avid goose and duck hunter, as well.

Jack had an amazing outlook on life and loved being with people.  He formed wonderful friendships throughout his life and kept in close contact with his hometown and dental school classmates attending all reunions, through the 50th.  After settling in Massachusetts, Jack founded new friendships in his community, on the golf course and in his neighborhood.  He was an active parishioner at St. Timothy Catholic Church, volunteered at his children’s schools, and contributed his professional services to the less fortunate.  His wonderful sense of humor and bold laugh pulled anyone into his circle.

Most of all, Jack was devoted to his family.  He enjoyed spending time at his Cape Cod home in East Dennis with his children and their families.  He loved his nine grandchildren and ensured that he attended all school and sporting events.  Wherever he went, Jack was never seen without one of his trusty black labs by his side and dog biscuits in his pockets.

Beloved husband of Claire Ann (MacDonald) Pourbaix, married two weeks short of their 66th wedding anniversary.

Loving father of John M. Pourbaix Jr. and his wife, Susan, of Walpole, Michele P. Gross and her husband, Donny, of Walpole, Eugene W. Pourbaix and his wife, Noelle, of Pembroke, and Jill A. Pourbaix of Centerville.

Cherished grandfather of Danielle, Jay, Tyler, Christopher, Erica, Bailey, Torey, Ryan, and Erin.

Brother of the late William Pourbaix, MD.

Also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.

As a result of the ongoing and ever developing health crisis in the world and with genuine concern for the people whom they love, Jack's family has decided that his funeral mass will be private, with interment taking place in Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.
