Joseph Raymond Terio

February 15, 1933 — April 9, 2022

Joseph Raymond Terio, age 89, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at his home in Wrentham, Massachusetts, surrounded by his loving family.  Born in Boston, Massachusetts on February 15, 1933, he was the son of the late Donato and Assunta (Acconciamessa) Terio.  He was raised in the Readville area of Boston, attending Hyde Park High School.   Joseph was a standout athlete in the hockey rink at Hyde Park High, prior to his graduation with the class of 1950.   Following his graduation, Joseph began his career with the railroad, working in the rail yard in Readville.

In 1953, Joseph enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving his country during the Korean War.  He was stationed with the 6th Infantry Regiment in Germany for a year and a half before returning state side, having earned the rank of Corporal.  After his honorable discharge in March of 1955, Joseph returned home to Readville and resumed his career with Amtrak, where he transitioned from the yard to serving as a conductor on board the train.

Joseph met his wife to be, Ann Marie Hanrahan, while attending church at Most Precious Blood in Hyde Park.  They were married in the church on April 5, 1970, and made their home in Hyde Park, starting their family together.  In 1977, Joseph and Ann moved their family to East Walpole, Massachusetts.  Joseph continued to grow his career with Amtrak, eventually being named locomotive engineer, prior to his retirement in 1999. In 2009, Joseph and Ann made their home in Wrentham, Massachusetts.

Throughout his life, Joseph was an avid sports fan, and while he started out following the  New York Yankees , he quickly came around to realize that a Boston boy had to support the home teams, including the Red Sox, Bruins, and Patriots.  He also loved music, listening to the popular music of the 50s, 60s, and 70s, especially big bands and Frank Sinatra.  As a man who took pride in the care of his home, Joseph could be found in his yard, cultivating and pruning his flower and vegetable gardens.

Most of all, Joseph was a dedicated family man, who treasured the time he spent with those he loved.  As a young father, Joseph returned to his mother's home in Readville every Sunday with his family for dinner.  When his children began to grow up, he could be found at all their sporting events, supporting them from the sidelines.  Joseph loved his children unconditionally and formed a special bond with each. But, no bond was more special than the one he shared with his eldest son, Joseph, whom he took bowling on a weekly basis.  He was delighted at the birth of his grandchildren for whom he enjoyed supporting each of their sports, dance and art activities.

Beloved husband of the late Ann Marie (Hanrahan) Terio.

Loving father of Joseph Terio of Wellesley, Brian Terio and his wife, Andrea, of Norfolk, Christina Meehan and her husband, Scott, of Walpole, Daniel Terio and his wife, Christina, of Grafton, and Stephen Terio of Wrentham.
