Juliana (Carangelo) Long

Juliana “Julie” (Carangelo) Long of Medway, previously of Worcester, passed away on November 28, 2025, surrounded by her children. She was 84 years old.

Juliana was the loving mother of Andrea (Long) Terio and her husband Brian of Norfolk, and Michael Long and his partner Tanya Johnson of Boylston. Cherished grandmother, “Grammy,” of five grandchildren: Jessica, Haley, Annah, Matthew, and Patrick. Beloved sister of five siblings; Louise Lane of Portland, ME (and her late husband, David Lane), Louis Carangelo and his wife Barbara of Salem, MA, the late Ferdinand (Ted) Carangelo, his wife, the late Lee (Booma) Carangelo of Swampscott and the late Phyllis Zeuli and her husband Henry of Winchester. She is also survived by nine nieces and nephews and many cousins, all of whom were an important part of her extended family.

Juliana was born in Boston’s North End in 1941 to the late Louis Anthony and Julia (Garcia) Carangelo. Along with her siblings, she moved to West Roxbury, where Juliana graduated from Girls’ High School in 1959. She attended Mass Bay Community College graduating in 1963 and the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1966 and later earned her Master of Social Work from Boston College School of Social Work in 1985. Juliana was a licensed LICSW and began her career working with adolescents, then with the residents in nursing homes, and finally with the Department of Mental Health in Westboro, where she remained for nearly thirty years until retiring in the late 1990s. Juliana dedicated her life and career to the service of others, always putting herself second and remaining committed to those in need.

As a single mother, Juliana raised her two children while pursuing her career and independently purchasing her first home. She was truly a pinnacle of strength who instilled her values in others, especially her children. Juliana loved to dance and her love for music was infused in her by her father and that love was passed on to her children and continued to be an enjoyment for her, even until her final days. Her warm and magnetic spirit drew people to her wherever she went, and she formed lasting friendships, even during her brief time at the assisted living facility in Medway. Juliana welcomed everyone with open arms and was a steadfast source of support for her children, no matter what the circumstance. Juliana is remembered fondly by her children’s friends, who always felt comfortable talking to her about their problems and acknowledging her as their ‘second’ mother. The loss of Juliana leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew her, and her memory will be cherished always.

The family of Juliana would like extended their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Salmon Hospice and Assisted Living, providing them with comfort and guidance over the past many weeks.
