Laura Susan (Mackey) Steverman, 69, passed away peacefully, at her home in Norfolk, MA, on Monday, November 28, 2022, after a long battle with Frontotemporal Degeneration, with her loving family at her side.
Born August 10, 1953, in Bennington VT, she was the beloved daughter of the late Milton and Marguerite (Balmer) Mackey. Laura leaves her adoring husband, Andrew, her children, Melissa Jean of San Diego, CA, Andrew John, of Waltham, MA, and Jeremy Rose, of Norfolk, MA. Cherished sister of Linda (Jay) Angelico of Old Lyme, CT, Carole Wallace of Medfield MA, Jean Pasqualucci of Acushnet MA, Nancy (Ned) Kingsbury of Walpole MA.
Laura graduated From Mt. Anthony Union High School Bennington in 1971, attended the University of Vermont for one year, then followed her four sisters' migration to Boston, transferring to Bay State College, earning her associates degree. Her first job as an agent with Garden City Travel, allowed her to travel to many vacation meccas around the country. Her wanderlust fulfilled, Laura settled in Brookline and began a life in the medical field as executive assistant to the head of Brigham Medical Associates. She continued her career with Brigham and Women's, running the office of Doctor's Soloman, Goldszer, and Lilly, until the birth of her daughter, Melissa, in 1982.
With child on hip, Laura started a home business, MediType, doing medical transcription for some of the hospital's doctors, hiring fellow transcriptionists and growing the business to include several other area hospitals and medical groups. After twenty years, Laura sold the business and concentrated on her life's love, quilting. She joined the Rhododendron Needler's Guild and other small groups of dedicated stitchers, winning many awards, including best of show and viewer's choice. The Steverman Family Yankee Swap at Christmas was not to be missed for a chance to get one of her quilts. The bus trips to Pennsylvania, Vermont, and Tennessee for quilt shows and shops were much loved. In addition to quilting, Laura enjoyed staying active, taking Zumba classes at the Adirondack Club in Franklin for many years, until she became ill. Although FTD made mobility difficult, she impressed all by attending Zumba classes at the Norfolk Senior Center, with the loving help of her aide, Cissa. Laura was devoted to her family and friends; we'll treasure all the moments she spent surrounded by those she loved.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Laura's Life Celebration on Sunday, December 4, 2022, from 2 to 5 PM in the James H. Delaney & Sons Funeral Home, 48 Common St, Walpole.
