Margaret M. "Peggy" Amati

July 30, 1948 — March 2, 2020

Margaret M. (Walsh) “Peggy” Amati, age 71, passed away peacefully in her Walpole, Massachusetts home on Monday, March 2, 2020, with her loving husband by her side.  Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on July 30, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Arlene (Mitchell) Walsh.  She was raised in Norwood, Massachusetts and graduated from Ursuline Academy with the Class of 1966.  Peggy continued her education at Boston State College, earning her bachelor’s degree with a focus on education in 1969.

Peggy married her husband, Michael W. Libby, on January 18, 1969.  As he was still on active duty in the Air Force, the young couple initially made their home together in Michigan, and later in Arkansas and Guam, before returning home to Massachusetts.  For a short time, they lived in Peggy’s hometown of Norwood before settling in Walpole in 1974, where Peggy took on the role of a homemaker, raising and caring for her daughter, Joyce.  After Joyce was enrolled in Blessed Sacrament School, Peggy began volunteering her time in the school’s library.

Sadly, in 1982, Peggy’s husband, Michael, passed away.  In order to better support her family, Peggy began taking classes at Massasoit Community College to earn her associate’s degree with a focus on computers and information technology, in addition to working in a local daycare.  Following her graduation in 1989, Peggy took a position with Rykoff Sexton Food Distribution.  She went on to work as a home health aide with the Neponset Valley Nursing Association.

Peggy married her husband, Paul A. Amati, on September 12, 1997.  Together they made their home in Walpole as Peggy continued her career as a home health aide.  In the late 1990s, Peggy took a position with the Walpole Public School System, working as a teacher’s aide, first in the Fisher Elementary School and later in the Boyden Elementary School.

Throughout her life, Peggy was an avid reader, always on the lookout for a new book to enjoy.  She also enjoyed working on crossword puzzles and playing Scrabble on her computer and with her family.  Peggy always had a love for animals, having many pets over the years.  Most of all she loved being surrounded by her family and especially loved the opportunity to care for her granddaughter, Nicole, when she was young.

Beloved wife of Paul A. Amati and the late Michael W. Libby.
Loving mother of Joyce A. Faye and her husband, Steve, of Abington and the late Nancy E. Libby.
Cherished grandmother of Nicole E. Bernache of Abington.
Sister of Susan E. Fitzpatrick and her husband, William, of Franklin and stepsister of Marie Oliver of Plainville.
Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
