Margaret "Peggy" Elizabeth (Hogan) Law, age 84, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at Hellenic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Canton, Massachusetts. Born in Taunton, Massachusetts on August 28, 1942, she was the daughter of Arthur and Margaret (Nimmo) Hogan.
Peggy grew up in Taunton, Massachusetts and after graduating high school in 1960 she went on to pursue her bachelor’s degree at Bridgewater State Teachers College, now Bridgewater State University. Peggy began her teaching career in Taunton, educating local middle schoolers in social studies and geography for two years before she moved to York, Maine.
Peggy continued her profession in education for another eight years. Known as Mrs. Neal to the children of Marshwood Middle School in South Berwick Maine, Peggy inspired many young minds during her time as a teacher before making a career shift. In 1974, Peggy started working as a bookkeeper for a local chain of hotels, Anchorage Inn and Suites. Peggy spent the remainder of her career at the Anchorage Inn in Portsmouth, New Hampshire until her retirement in 2012.
When she wasn't working, Peggy was taking an active role as a member of her community, whether at her church or in local government. Putting her bookkeeping skills to good use, she took on various treasurer positions throughout the years, including Assistant Treasurer of York Beach Union Congregational Church, Treasurer of York Beach Corporation, and Treasurer of the Town of York.
At home, Peggy enjoyed reading and snuggling with her beloved pets. Though she was a lover of many animals over her lifetime, there was a special place in her heart for her firsts. A trio of Siamese cats - Puddy, Pada, and Willy - brought much joy to Peggy, and in later years Puffin, a black and white cat, was a particular favorite.
Peggy's life was full of service, loyalty, and quiet strength. She will be missed.
Beloved wife of the late Edward Charles Law.
Loving sister of Janet Segroves and her husband R. Micheal of Walpole.
Cherished aunt of Elizabeth Greene, her husband Ken, and their sons Jack and Henry of Walpole.
Lifelong friend of Virginia 'Ginny' Norcutt of Taunton.
Godmother of Sherry and Shelly.
Also survived by many cousins, extended relatives, students, and friends.
At the request of Peggy's family, all immediate services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Peggy's name may be made to Union Congregational Church at PO Box 567 York Beach, ME 03910.
