Mark Alan Batchelder

January 25, 1954 — December 16, 2021

Mark Alan Batchelder, age 67, passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Needham, Massachusetts. Born in Weymouth, Massachusetts on January 25, 1954, he was the son of the late Roger M. and Marjorie E. (Lang) Batchelder. He spent his early years in Halifax before his family settled in Walpole in 1966. Mark graduated from Walpole High School with the Class of 1973 and began his plumbing career as an apprentice with T.F. Riley Plumbing in Norwood.

As he learned his trade, Mark took courses at Old Colony Trade School in Brockton, earning his credits to obtain his Master plumbing license. With his new license in hand, Mark opened MA Batchelder Plumbing, based in Walpole. His career spanned more than forty years, until his retirement in 2014.

While Mark worked hard, he knew the best way to unwind after a long week was to grab his clubs and take in a round or two of golf. He was a longtime member of the Walpole Golf League at Heather Hill Country Club, where he truly enjoyed spending time with his friends. Mark's love of sports did not end with golf, he also enjoyed pick-up games of basketball and softball in his younger days. His love for sport was passed on to his children, who loved having their Dad volunteer to coach them in basketball and baseball over the years. Aside from participating in athletics, as an avid New England sports fan, Mark was a Patriots season ticket holder for 13 years and enjoyed following the Celtics, having a special love for Larry Bird, which he ironically named his bird "Larry" after.

Throughout his life, Mark had a green thumb and was known for his simple love of growing tomatoes. When he wasn't busy with his tomato plants, Mark enjoyed trying his luck at casinos throughout New England. However, most of all, he loved being at home with those he loved.

Beloved companion and longtime friend of Maryanne Duffy of Walpole.
Loving father of Eric M. Batchelder and his wife, Trinda, Kate E. Cleveland and her husband, Kevin, and Amy L. McLaughlin all of Franklin.
Cherished grandfather of Ella McLaughlin, Drew McLaughlin, James Batchelder, Daniel Batchelder, Mary Cleveland, and Griffin Cleveland.
Brother of David Batchelder and his wife, Carol, of Narragansett, Rhode Island, Peter Batchelder and his wife, Jacquelyn, of Walpole, and the late John Batchelder.
Also survived by the mother of his Children Diane Daly O’Toole, and many nieces and nephews.
