Mark Gerald Dodds, age 93, peacefully passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at his home in Walpole, Massachusetts. He was born in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan, on August 29, 1932, to the late Herbert and Ella (Benson) Dodds. Growing up in Sault Ste Marie, Mark graduated from Sault Ste Marie High School with the Class of 1952. After high school, he proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War, stationed in Germany with Army Intelligence, earning the rank of Corporal and being awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Army of Occupation Medal (Germany).
When he returned to Michigan, Mark started building a house for his mom in Big Rapids while attending Ferris State University nearby. He started in the finance world with Keeler Brass Company in Grand Rapids, gaining valuable investment experience. A few years later, he moved to Tacoma Park, Maryland, where he took classes at the University of Maryland at College Park and worked overnight at the local post office. It was there that Mark met the love of his life, Margaret Gertrude Wannemacher, by chance one evening. They quickly fell in love and tied the knot on August 12, 1961, in Bethesda, Maryland. The couple made their home in Potomac, Maryland, where Mark continued his finance career with positions at Reynolds & Company, H.B. Engineering, and Schroder Naess & Thomas.
After gaining plenty of experience, Mark decided to start his own business, forming Potomac Business Consulting, and spent many years consulting for companies and helping private companies go public. He retired in the early 2000s but stayed sharp, keeping an eye on the markets and following companies he believed in. In 2016, Mark and Margaret moved to Walpole, Massachusetts, to be closer to family, especially their beloved grandchildren.
Mark had a thirst for knowledge, was a great conversationalist, and had many hobbies that brought him joy. He loved organic gardening at his home in Potomac and enjoyed spending time in his woodworking shop, crafting furniture and other pieces.
Beloved husband of the late Margaret Gertrude Dodds.
Loving father of Ann M. Dodds-Frerichs and her husband, Kai Frerichs, of Westwood and Michele M. Dodds and her husband, Matthew Rogers, of Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Cherished grandfather of Samantha Frerichs and Alan Frerichs both of Westwood.
Brother of Maxine Cialella of Glen Arm, Maryland, the late Donna Caraccio, and the late Vera Trussell.
At the request of Mark's family, all funeral services will take place privately, with interment in Arlington National Cemetery.
