Mary J. Federico

September 6, 1931 — December 5, 2022

Mary J. (Pinciaro) Federico, age 91, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 5, 2022, at her home in East Walpole, Massachusetts, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Pettorano, Italy on September 6, 1931.  She was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Crocifissa (Franciosa) Pinciaro.  She spent her early years in Pettorano before immigrating to the United States of America at the age of three.  Upon their arrival to America, Mary's family initially made their home in the North End neighborhood of Boston.  They later traveled up the east coast, settling in Pittsfield, Maine, where Mary spent her teenage years studying at Maine Central Institute, earning her high school diploma in 1949.

Mary married her beloved husband, Frank Federico, on October 30, 1949.  The young couple returned to Massachusetts, making their first home together in Dorchester.  Shortly after, Mary took a position with the Keystone Company.  Later on Frank opened his construction business in 1954, and as a dedicated wife, Mary proudly supported him by managing the office and bookkeeping for the company.  Three years later, she and Frank moved out of the city, making their home in the small suburban town of East Walpole where she resided for the past 65 years.  At that time she joined Saint Mary’s Parish in East Walpole where she became a devoted parishioner.  Later in life Mary worked at the family owned Dalton's Package Store on Main Street in Walpole Center.  In the early 2000’s she took a position with Stop and Shop on Route 1 in Norwood.  Mary learned the store inside and out, memorizing all the produce codes and helping her customers in any way that she could before her retirement in 2012.

While she only spent three years of her life in Italy, Mary had a tremendous sense of pride in her Italian culture.  She was a long-time member of the Sons of Italy and spent countless hours at the Italian American Club in Walpole playing Bocce and cooking meals.  Her favorite times were spending time with her once a month “chatter box club.”  Mary looked forward to many trips that she took back home to Italy over the years, ensuring she passed down the customs and traditions to her own family.  In addition to returning to Italy, Mary looked forward to several other trips throughout North America and Europe, exploring destinations in Hawaii, Mexico, Canada, Spain, Turkey, and Greece.  Mary enjoyed trying her luck at the casinos of New England and always did her best to pick out winning lottery numbers.  Friday nights were especially full of luck for Mary as she and her girlfriends would gather for a hand or two of cards.

Mary was a talented seamstress, making clothes for her family as well as beautiful quilts.  Her skills for crafting carried beyond her sewing, as she excelled at knitting and crocheting, making afghans for everyone.  Mary was also known for her culinary and baking skills that always had her family coming back for a second serving.  Her most cherished moments were spent around the dining room table sharing stories and laughs with her family.

Beloved wife of the late Frank Federico.  Loving mother of Frank Federico Jr. and his wife, Angela, of West Peabody, Michael P. Federico and his wife, Theresa, of Foxborough, Maryann Dwyer and her husband, Robert, of East Walpole, and Doreen Federico of East Walpole.  Cherished Noni of Nicole Bertoldi and her husband, Robert, Regina Federico, Gabriela Dwyer, Kristen Dwyer, and Michaela Federico; and “Big” Noni of Giuliana, Gemma, and Rocco Bertoldi.  Sister of Concetta Franciosa and her husband, Enrico, of East Walpole and Cesidio Pinciaro and his late wife, Julia, of Norwood.  Sister-in-law of Lydia Federico and her late husband, Joseph, of Dedham.

Devoted Aunt to many loving nieces and nephews and a friend to all.  The family would like to thank her caregivers for all their love and support.
