Mary Josephine (Fitzsimmons) MacDonald, age 93, peacefully passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026. Born in Boston on January 14, 1933, she was the daughter of the late John and Agnes (Roach) Fitzsimmons.
Mary grew up in the Mission Hill neighborhood of Boston and graduated from Mission Church High School as part of the Class of 1950. After high school, she worked for New England Telephone Company.
On May 4, 1957, she married her wonderful husband, Donald J. MacDonald, at Saint Joseph's Church in Hyde Park. They settled in Walpole, Massachusetts, in 1960.
Throughout her life, Mary had a love for reading the Boston Globe cover to cover every day. She also loved listening to music, and she was especially fond of Engelbert Humperdinck and attended his concerts many times.
Mary loved dressing fashionably and wore mostly heels every day. She loved going out to eat with family and friends. She enjoyed vacations with her sister Ellen to Cape Cod and the Bahamas. Throughout her 93 years, she kept her sharp wit about her, and always spoke her mind.
Beloved wife of the late Donald J. MacDonald, who died in 1982.
Loving sister of the late Sr. Ellen Fitzsimmons.
Sister-in-law of the late John MacDonald, the late Jane Keefe and her surviving husband, Brion, of Florida, and the late Joseph MacDonald.
Cherished aunt of Kristina Keefe and her fiance, Steve Hall, of Weymouth, Kerry Nerich and her husband, Timothy, of Lynn, and Brion Keefe and his wife, Jennifer, of Weymouth; and great aunt of Timothy Nerich and Maggie Nerich.
Also survived by her dear cousins and many friends.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Mary's visitation on Friday, March 27th, 2026, from 10:30 am - 11:00 am at Blessed Sacrament Church, 10 Diamond Street, Walpole.
