Mary E. "Ellie" Murphy

Mary E. "Ellie" Murphy, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at Newton Wellesley Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.  Born in Boston, Massachusetts on June 1, 1934, she was the daughter of the late James E. and Mary E. (O'Brien) Connors.  She spent her early years in Dorchester before settling with her family in Quincy.  Following her graduation from nursing school, Ellie took a position with the Carney Hospital, working as an operating room nurse.

Ellie married her beloved husband, John F. "Lucky" Murphy, on June 4, 1955, in Sacred Heart Church in Quincy.  Together, they made their home in Dorchester before settling in Dedham, in 1958, where Ellie took on the role of a homemaker, raising and caring for her nine children.  More recently, she and Lucky settled in Norfolk, Massachusetts, remaining close with all their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as Ellie was most happy surrounded by those she loved.

Loving mother of Maryellen Johnson and her husband, Leo, of Attleboro, Kathleen Claffey of Bellingham, Carolyn Murphy of Norwood, John Murphy Jr. and his wife, Beth, of Dedham, Stephen Murphy of Westwood, Robert Murphy and his partner, Paul, of Quincy, Maureen Sullivan and her husband, George, of Norwood, Colleen O'Shea and her husband, Ronnie, of Norfolk, and Susan Holman and her husband, Jeff, of Bellingham.
Cherished grandmother of twenty-two grandchildren and great grandmother of thirteen great-grandchildren.
Sister of John "Jack" Connors and his wife, Bettie, of Arlington, and the late James Connors, Jr.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Ellie's Life Celebration on Monday, June 6, 2022, from 4 to 7 PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole.

Ellie's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Jude's Church, 86 Main Street, Norfolk on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at 10:00 AM.  Interment will follow in Brookdale Cemetery in Dedham.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ellie's name may be made to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
