Maureen Catherine (O'Reilly) Upton, age 85, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on April 10, 2026, at Linden Ponds in Hingham, Massachusetts. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on May 1, 1940, she was the daughter of Thomas J. and Katherine F. (Duggan) O'Reilly.
Maureen was raised in Cambridge and attended Saint John’s Catholic School until her senior year of high school, when she transferred to Westwood High School. She received an incredibly warm welcome to her new school, where she made many friends and excelled academically. Maureen immersed herself in school activities, including earning the lead role in the senior class play. Maureen had a gift for writing and if you were the recipient of one of her poems, you received her pure heart.
Maureen enjoyed her early career working several years at the Westwood Town Hall where she was an administrator for the Board of Selectmen. Maureen was known for her dedication and strong work ethic and loved being up on current events.
Maureen met her future husband Robert “Bob” Charles Upton of Walpole in the spring of 1959, having been introduced by his brother Dick. Maureen and Bob married on May 6, 1962, in Saint Margaret Mary's in Westwood. The newlyweds made their married home in Walpole where they raised their three daughters, Sharon, Julie and Suzanne. Maureen was a deeply devoted, present, and loving mother who ensured her daughters always felt supported and cherished.
In addition to caring for her family, Maureen served as an administrator of her husband’s many business ventures, including the highly successful 21st Century Roofing Systems, Inc., where she played an integral role in overseeing operations and ensuring everything ran smoothly.
Maureen’s family and friendships were the heart of her life. As a young mother, she co-founded The Friendship Club, known simply as “The Club,” in her community. What began as casual gatherings among friends grew into a lifelong bond of support, connection, and shared experiences. Club is still active today, over 50 years later.
In 2002, Maureen and Bob moved to Onset, Massachusetts, enjoying summers on the Cape and winters in Bonita Springs, Florida. In 2015, they moved to Linden Ponds in Hingham, Massachusetts where Maureen quickly embraced the community and became a well-respected and inspiring presence. She had a natural gift for bringing people together and created meaningful connections wherever she lived.
Maureen was a caring, intuitive, and resilient woman who always seemed to know just what to say. Her outlook on life remained positive, even through health challenges. She was a bright light and source of comfort to those around her and she will be dearly missed.
Beloved wife of the late Robert Charles Upton.
Loving mother of Sharon E. Judge and her husband Richard of Medfield, Julie C. Upton of Gloucester, and Suzanne M. Kracunas of Hingham.
