Michael R. Girvan

Michael R. Girvan, age 71, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2023, at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, Massachusetts.  Born in Boston, Massachusetts on December 31, 1951, he was the son of the late George W. and Doris Alice (Walker) Girvan.  Michael spent his early years in the Roslindale neighborhood of Boston, before his family settled in Walpole, Massachusetts.  He graduated from Walpole High School with the Class of 1970 and enlisted in the United States Army.

Upon his return home to Walpole, Michael took a position with Wooding and Son's based in Wrentham, working in the construction field, and later took a job with the Department of Environmental Protection in Boston.  While working full-time, he returned to his education, earning his associate degree from Bunker Hill Community College.  With his degree in hand, Michael became eligible for a promotion within the DEP, and was put into a management position, overseeing one of the permitting offices.  He continued his career with the DEP for over forty years until his retirement in 2017.  More recently in 2018, Michael made his home in Attleboro to be closer to his family.

Throughout his life, Michael loved being outdoors.  He was a regular at Jellystone Park in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, camping with his brothers and sisters.  Michael always looked forward to a day cruising a lake on board a boat or casting his fishing line into the water to catch "the big one."  Back at home, he spent countless hours working on the flower gardens around the house, ensuring each one was perfectly cared for and manicured.  His love for flowers remained with him after moving to Attleboro, as there was a patch that he beautifully kept next to his front door.

Devoted son of the late George W. and Doris Alice (Walker) Girvan.

Loving brother of Doris Meagher of Plainville, Deborah Backoff of New Hampshire, Thomas Girvan of North Attleborough, and Donna LeClerc of North Attleborough, the late George Girvan, the late Dennis Girvan, the late Dianne Collins, the late Dorothy Morin, and the late Paul Girvan.

Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

At the request of Michael's family, all of his funeral services will be private.  Interment will take place in Saint Francis Cemetery in Walpole.
